Trying to get up a snowy hill, the rear differential apparently overloaded and did a "manual shutdown" to protect itself, so basically our AWD Sorento was only FWD and we ended up having to go up the hill backwards!! The service department at the Kia dealership we took it to said the only recommended solution was to do a fluid change... a mechanic friend of ours looked up the code (4wd-p1832) that came up in the history and apparently this issue has happened before and the recommended solution as per Kia's TSB was to replace the coupler...
We feel very strongly that this should be something covered under warranty as the vehicle is only 4 years old and the Kia service department didn't really seem to know what the problem was and just wanted to change the fluids in the vehicle.... and when we asked if this would guarantee that the AWD will work going forward we were told there's no guarantees... what the hell is the point of buying an AWD vehicle if there's no guarantee the AWD is even going to work?
The service guy then tried to tell me that basically it's because I have crappy winter tires and that's why the rear differential overloaded... my winter tires aren't crap.
We are so frustrated with this Kia dealership and the fact that they won't stand behind their vehicles!!!
