I was driving on the freeway, when I started to hear a loud thumping noise. I got home safely, next day I took it down to the repair shop to have it diagnosed. I was told that the complete back end rear differential had broke. They said that it was very unusual and asked if the car had been in some type of accident. I told them no, the vehicle had not been in any accident. They said the rear end differential needed to be replaced and that if I was going to take the car without replacing that they would not release the car to me to drive off, that I would have to have it towed out of there because it was a safety hazard to drive like that. This vehicle is only 5-6 years old, it should not be braking for no reason. I contacted KIA directly and was told that because the car was no longer under warranty that they would not help out with repairs. They were very rude and unwilling to help. I did end up having the rear end differential repaired. Very unhappy with KIA for not standing behind their product.
This problem has been going on for over a year. I can't get any KIA dealer to acknowledge the problem. Pretty sure its the AWD coupler that is making the noise. It makes thumping noise as you accelerate slowly around a corner.
