CarComplaints.com Notes: There are just too many engine stalls or shuts down while driving reports to feel good about the Sorento. Especially when those things happen, on average, at just over 32,000 miles. Hopefully things will change.

2013 Kia Sorento, ,, 120,000 miles one owner, regular maintance on time. Engine failed on hyway, my mechanic said its a recslled engine. Towed to Kia, after two months of back and fourth phine calls, Kia said its not a recallled engine. The probkem is Kia sent nobody to inspect engine, and they run you around on phone. Not happy.
Incorrect flywheel was installed on my Kia sorrento, most likely by the original manufacturer. It has caused premature failure of my starter motor and various other repairs. The incorrect part belongs to a Kia sedona of the same model year.
The vehicle was traveling at about 45-50 mph on a major roadway when suddenly it made a noise and lost power. Couldn't immediately pull off the road and was only able to travel at 15-20 mph, with emergency flashers on, until a safe pull off could be identified.
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sorento. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle began to stall and multiple warning indicators illuminated. The contact was able to park the vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle was able to be restarted within fifteen minutes; however, it continued to stall while driving home. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 17V224000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to Kia of manhattan (located at 8223 S port dr, manhattan, ks 66502, (785) 236-7002) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 72,000.
I have a 2013 Kia Sorento that completely stopped working as I was driving down a busy highway. It was towed to a dealership who after two days of waiting stated my engine was locked up and it was cost $8500. I knew about this engine recall for Kia and I then contacted Kia customer service to see if there was anything they could do to help me. I got a case number and after two and a half weeks of waiting and being told someone would call me back in 2-3 days every time I called they relayed the news that there was no way they could assist me. The reasons being that my VIN number was not associated with the recall and my warranty had just ended in January, this happened in August. After politely telling this Kia employee that even though it sounds like the same issue from the recall there is no way you can assist? she firmly said no, it is very VIN specific. I have $71,000 miles on my car and get oil changes regularly. There is no reason my engine should have locked up. I almost had this car paid off and now I am stuck with no answers and no assistance. I am very unhappy.

The engine of my 2013 Kia Sorento, with less than 58K miles, seized and shut off completely, causing the steering wheel to lock when I was driving on a busy Suburban street. Thankfully, I was able to coast to the side of the road, where I was able to restart the engine and drive home, noting a knocking noise in the engine the whole way. The car remained in our garage for the next couple weeks while we were on vacation. Once home, I drove the car (knocking all the way) to Firestone where they diagnosed the issue as a probable bottom end engine connecting rod failure, noting they had seen at least five or more Kia Sorentos with the same problem, then proceeded to pull up the NHTSA recall for 2011-2013 Sorentos with engine failure relating to bottom end connecting rods. The car had barely made it to Firestone (where the engine died completely) and had to be towed to the jim sipala Kia dealership in West chester, pa, where the car had been purchased, used, in 2014, with about 16,000 miles. Sipala Kia diagnosed what Firestone had suspected but refused to do anything B/C the VIN # of my car did not match those in the recall, even though it was the exact same issue, which they did not deny. The issue my car has falls under the NHTSA safety recall #17V224000, recall date 3/31/17, wherein the consequence of this issue is noted as 'bearing wear may result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash.', which is exactly what happened to me.
The vehicle has high oil consumption, roughly one quart of oil per one thousand miles driven. Quick searches online have revealed this is a common problem.
There is I recall on the same year make and model of my car except the engine they say is the or cylinder and not the 6 but I have had a blown head gasket since I bought a car from a dealership certified pre owned and still paying on it however my call gets so hot that I have to pull over a lot to let it cool off and I put alot of money in antifreeze and water. They will not work with me at Kia dealership they are saying theres no recall on the V6 only 4 cylinder and I dont have $3200 to just pay for it to be done. Because of the same side of the head gasket being blown as the recall on the 4 cylinder as for that the recall is made because of catching fire because the head that is blown in the recall is same one as mine against the fire wall and it gets super hot like it's gonna catch fire at your feet on the inside like the 4cylinders
When I was driving my 2013 Kia Sorento down the highway the engine started to rattle and I was losing power it would not go when I step on the gas their was no check engine light or anything on the the dash lighting up saying their was something wrong with the engine when it quit running only then the dash lights came on after it already died I was only going 50 mph it is a good thing it did not die at the intersection this car only has 55,448 on it and I was told by the Kia dealership that it will need a new engine that will cost over 6,000 dollars to fix it. The service department at the dealership has not provide a copy of the service order stating what is wrong with the Sorento, even though we have requested one to send with this correspondence several times. I called Kia and they were no help at all. They make unsafe cars and will not help you at all. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a Kia.
The engine stalled while driving on the freeway. Check engine light came on after the car lost power. We had to pull onto the shoulder of the road and the car was towed to the dealership. No warning lights of any kind came on prior to the engine stalling. Kia claims the oil was low but no check oil light ever came on. The scheduled maintenance plan was followed precisely and is up to date. Kia has a faulty engine oil pressure warning light, causing engines to stall while driving.
Around 60,000 miles, my Kia Sorento is losing oil without any signs of leak or burning. Just disappearing. Have completed 3 total 1,000 mile oil consumption tests at Kia of West chester, pa and I have asked them to start a claim. It is losing at least a full quart after 1,000 miles. I continue to check oil, purchase quarts and am anxious with concern over the legal issues driving a vehicle with engine recalls and the chance of losing a life due to engine and connecting rod malfunction. 2nd owner and purchased Feb. 2017 from ardmore Nissan (ardmore, pa).
I have a 2013 Kia Sorento. While driving down a city road the car only moving 45 mph every light on the dash started to blink, steering wheel began to become difficult to turn and car eventually stalled on side of road. Car had to be towed to home and then towed to Kia dealer of stonecrest in lithonia, ga. The car was given a diagnostic that for it to run the alternator needed to be replaced. Alternator was replaced at a cost of $1,056. Drove vehicle home and drove onto highway later that evening where I heard knocking noises, sensor lights flashed. The car began to smoke and steering wheel locked. I was alone on busy highway at night in between exits and my husband and the tow truck struggled with pinpointing my location. This was very scary with cars driving at 70+ mph past me and my hazard lights were losing power.had to have car towed once again. Kia now says the engine needs replaced and asking for 6,000. Kia has history of engine recalls but claim my VIN is not included in recall so they will not replace. Vehicle only has 100,000 miles and has had consistent oil changes. Now I'm stuck with a pricey repair on a vehicle that is not paid off. This situation is dangerous and appears to be a common trend with Kia vehicles.
I was driving home and stopped at a red light when the car completely died. I had aaa come out and they said the battery was like new and the oil was good, so they towed it to a dealer who told me the engine seized. They could not find a reason why the 6 year old cars engine just randomly seized. I found out they're recalled for that. However Kia is saying my particular car is not covered and wants to charge me $6,800 to put a used engine in. I still have over a year of car payments and no car. I use my car everyday for my job.
While driving in the expressway, the car stopped abruptly. Every light that can possibly come on was on. I was able to slowly pull over out of heavy traffic with the hazards on. I had it towed to a repair shop where they diagnosed it as being a ceased engine. I immediately called Kia. Initially, they agreed to repair it. Two days later, they called and said it didn't call under the perimeters of the recall. Today, the car still remains at Kia service waiting on them to change their minds and repair it.
Engine stalled. Driving 55 mph on flat highway road at 9:20 pm et check engine light came on, engine stalled, I coasted to a stop, put in park, restarted the engine. Oil dipstick shows full. 89,443 miles. 2nd time in less than 7 days it stalled.
On July 12 I was driving down a very busy interstate in another state when my engine started knocking once I got off exit. The car was shaking very badly. It made me very afraid that I was gonna cause an accident. Once I got off exit I attempted to pull over to a parking lot but the car completely cut off in the middle of traffic and would not crank. Car was towed to shop and was told that engine had seized. I have done every recall sent to me and have kept this car well maintained since it is my only means of transportation. I have read numerous complaints dealing with the same thing. My vehicle only had 163,000 miles on it. I think this needs to be investigated.
2013 Kia Sorento, knocking in engine. Kia says it needs a new engine. They did last 3 oil changes with no issues reported. They put a claim in for warranty and warranty company is being difficult with approval. Car has had no issues, bought new with 100 miles. Was in motion on highway. Apparently no recall on my vehicle. If engine had blown on highway it could have caused a crash with injury and or death.
