On March 26th, 2016 my 2012 KIA Sorento LX was involved in an accident which was caused by the 2.4-Litre Engine Seizure. The vehicle lost all power steering and brakes. Had to swerve away from oncoming traffic and pedestrians and hit a traffic stop sign. The stop sign had flown straight into the front drivers side windshield shattering the window.

Sudden loss has now been experienced in my 2012 Sorento on three occasions. None have been a high speed, to this point, and this is frightening. Just spoke to the GM at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and he told me there's a new software update for a problem with the 2012 and similar model years. The fix is coming in the next couple of weeks, and letters will be going out, the GM told me. Having read about the fatalities related to sudden power loss and relating to General Motors vehicles, this is truly frightening. I've registered two of my complaints with the KIA dealership and am considering hiring a lawyer, in the event the unthinkable happens.

Does the sudden power loss impact the ability of the air bags and such to work? I can't answer that, but I sure hope not. My family's life could be at risk, as a sudden power loss at highway speed, while performing a pass, for example, and being forced to the side of the road with sudden loss of automatic steering and braking...I don't even want to think about it.
