CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?

The contact owns a 2011 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that when he took his foot off the accelerator pedal and let the vehicle coast, it seemed as if the brake pedal was being depressed when traveling between 30-40 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the engine was breaking due to the torque converter. The dealer took the vehicle for a 23 mile drive and that although the failure did occur, it was normal. The contact was concerned that he could possibly lose control of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 14. The current mileage was 1,900.
