CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?

Vehicle pulls to the right and has since day one. Dealer states "we cant duplicate your concern", yet when we picked up the vehicle (from the cruise control breaking, the vehicle again pulled to the right. We did not say much after until reading about dozens of other vehicle owner whom experience the same problem. When will the national highway transportation and safety administration do something about it?

I purchased a 2011 Sorento ex in 2/2010. I was told at the time that the steering, when it pulled to the right, was normal for this type of suspension. I dealt with it for a long time. Then, I noticed one day a loud clanking noise coming from the back of the vehicle. I brought it in right away, and they told me that my rear shock went out on the right side and the back leftside was almost gone as well. So, they ordered the new ones. While they had my vehicle for 5 days, I asked them to do an alignment but told me that I was past 12K miles, and wouldnt be covered uner warranty. I called Kia affairs and they covered the repair under the warranty. However, the pulling (after the alignment) is still the same. I also mentioned a noise coming from the front end especially when braking. It is not normal, but dont know what it is... they told me there was nothing wrong with the brakes. But, any passenger in my vehicle hears it and says something is wrong. I am waiting for either my steering to go out or my brakes to not work on day as I know theres an isssue. There is also a clanking noise when starting the engine. What could be causing that? it sounds like someone needs to investigate and help consumers! please. I will also follow up with Kia affairs, but someone needs to intervene. The same issues aer being experienced by many people. There should be a recall relating to the steering, suspension, clunking engine noise when starting...before something happens. These are just a few people who have spoken up, but all are similar in nature, and there must be many more who have not complained. ! thank you.

When taken to a speed over 35 mph felt a drift to the right in the steering. When taken to higher speeds, it became physically necessary to hold steering wheel tightly in order to keep vehicle from going to the right. Steering seemed extremely tight and somewhat jerky when cornering making it difficult to get a smooth turn. Steering wheel did not sit straight when driving straight. Front wheels not pointing at same angle when parked. Noticed odor after driving 15 miles that can only be explained as a "burning brakes" odor. Took vehicle to dealer repair department where they performed an alignment; however, this did not fix the problem and we were then told that Kia was saying new tires would fix this Kia known issue. The tires were ordered and put on within the next few days, but replacing the tires did not fix the problem. At this time, we were made aware that our loan had not actually funded yet, so we asked for a contract recession due to the fact that the problem with this vehicle was a known, non repairable issue. The dealership refused contract recession. We were told we would be contacted if Kia came up with a solution to this issue. We returned the vehicle to the dealership repair shop 2 days later telling them to call us when it was fixed. Kia customer service called 2 days after we dropped the vehicle off the second time to let us know that new springs were needed, had been ordered, and would be at the shop the next day. That was nearly a week ago and we have yet to hear from anyone about the vehicle. Dealership has now determined that the vehicle is performing as it should be, even though it still drifts to the right. Turning to the right feels normal, while turning to the left feels as if I am fighting to keep the wheel from snapping back towards the right. Kia will not look into the problem any further on this vehicle.

Front strut failure at 3K miles. Car randomly has a loud metallic clunk sound when starting, sometimes the car will surge/jump forward when starting (while the car is in park, parking brake on and foot on brake). The transmission shifter gets stuck in park and does not release, with great effort releasing from park(car made loud metallic clank sound and surged/jumped in reverse). I'm afraid to park too close to another car because starting car can cause collision. When the transmission is stuck the brakes depress to floor of car. Since day one the car has pulled to the right, after strut replacement the problem is worse (the faster the speed the harder it is to steer straight).

Sorento 4-cyl

  • 150 miles
I recently purchased a 2011 Kia Sorento 4 cyl. And just after one day of ownership noticed that the car was pulling to the right. I immediately took it back to the dealership with only 150 miles on it. They said it was the alignment and did a test on it and after the test the car pulled to the left. The steering wheel is also off center, like many others have reported. I have taken it back once more and this time they performed a tire rotation, this did not fix the problem. After three weeks of ownership the brakes have started to make substantial noise and the suspension feels and sounds like it is coming apart. The dealer is waiting for Kia technician representative to come by and take a look and report on this vehicle.

Purchase used 2011 Kia Sorento with less than 12,000 miles from dealership. Car was making loud noises 2 days after purchase in the front of the vehicle. Took it in it was the power steering pump which needed to be replaced. After it's replacement less than a week later the problem started up again. Dealership said it wasn't bleed properly and had air in the system. After they bleed the pump the noise starts up next day. Now they have two replace the pump again. However they don't have the part in stock. After driving around for a week waiting for the part to arrive the car has been pulling when I drive and the wheel seems stuck when I try to turn. I feel it's extremely unsafe and feel they should have kept the car until the part arrived.

Bought a 2011 Sorento LX V6. Wife drove it home that night. I did not drive till two day's later with only 105 miles on it, and immediately felt the call pulling right at all times, even the steering wheels is off center. Also like other owners; the car has the constant noisy front/right wheel, and the transmission thud/jerk about every 5 starts. I called the dealership and asked to speak to the sales mgr. And explained the situation, he told me he had heard of no such issues about any cars at any time. He told me to come in and talk to the sales person who sold me the car. He made no attempt to reassure me and clearly lied. I will be taking the car in a the end of the week and see where this hopefully short road will take us. Also for any other person who comes upon these complaints, please do you homework on your states lemon laws. They are designed to protect you and the seller, so be sure you do your part, it can be easy to screw yourself over.

I bought a brand new Kia Sorento 2011 in February this year. I have 20 000 miles on it and 2 days ago while I tried to drive off from intersection I heard a noise like something broke coming from driver's front side of the vehicle and right after that starts to make a sound like is keep braking metal. The vehicle went completely undrivable. I called road help assistance and they tow the car to the dealership. Next day they called me back and on my question what is going on they told me that " cv shaft is broken" and they will need to replace that part and that will take more than a week, but they did not showed me the broken part. So I'm not sure if the broken part is available, but should be still in the service center on the Kia dealership.

Bought a 2011 Kia Sorento 4cyl standard package. Noticed at around 200 miles the front right tire was making some clunking noises and felt very wobbly. The car also pulls to the right on the highway. Called the local Kia dealership and they looked at it and said it was a suspension problem and they had another car with the same problem so they knew what it was. It's been 3 weeks, Kia said they would call but they never did so I have called the dealer over 4 times to hear the words "we don't have your part" they told me one other time that one of the guys tried to order too many parts and they got rejected! lies! the RPM's also reeve up for no apparent reason. They make the car sound like the motor is going to blow up and last, the car pulls to the right while driving on the highway. Very unsafe!I don't feel safe driving this car and it feels like I am driving a pile of junk. I am waiting to break down on the freeway!

Have had 4 alignments and one steering wheel straightening in 3 months on a brand new 2011 Kia Sorento, 4 cyl, to correct the SUV drifting to the right. Please refer to case #10334297. Today I drove a new Sorento as a test-drive at the dealer to compare my car to one just off the assembly line. This form is to update NHTSA that the new vehicle has the same drifting problem as the one I purchased in late March 2010. All specs from each alignment has been forwarded to Kia corporation (matt is the client service contact. My complaint number with Kia is #[xxx]). all alignments all different as to "before adjustment and after adjustment" even though less than 3 months has gone by for all the adjustments made. This appears to be a design flaw and at this time does not appear to be "fixable". felt this problem should be reported. 2011 Kia Sorento [xxx], having issues with vehicle pulling off to the right while driving at various speeds on various roads/highways. Said vehicle was brought back to dealership service department to look at alignment. Service department's work resulted in vehicle alignment worse than before. Returned vehicle back to dealer service department, had several (dealership service advisor, dealership service manager, Kia district service manager) all look at and drove vehicle and noticed issue. Dealership service manager stated that he drove several other 2011 Sorento's and noticed a couple of 4 cylinder versions with same issue, and one without the issue. Dealership service manager contacted sister dealership and was informed that they also had a similiar issue with one of their 2011 Sorento's. dealership service department and district manager states vehicle has been put back to factory specs, however, upon customer driving vehicle again along with the dealeship service manager, the said vehicle still pulls to the right significantly. Case number ([xxx]) has been established by Kia consumer headquarters. Field tech rep has been contacted to look into vehicle issue. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
