CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?

Hood opened while driving at highway speed and slammed against windshield! FORTUNATELY, I did not crash the car or hit anyone else on this BUSY HIGHWAY. Ourisman KIA dealership Chantilly, VA confirmed that hood latch had failed. KIA had recall out for Sedona hood latch but not Sorento. 2011 KIA was only 8 years old and easily could have failed within the 100K mile warranty period but the failure did not manifest itself til that day (105K miles). Fortunately my wife or kids were not driving! I filed report with NHTSA, tried repeatedly to persuade KIA customer 'care.' KIA refused to cover the repair even though we are a loyal three KIA car family! KIA stands for Killed In Accident!
