CarComplaints.com Notes: Kia really changed the design of the Sorento in the 2011 model year. Instead of a truck-like body-on-frame more capable of offroad adventures, the newest Sorento is a unibody construction and is much more crossover than sport utility. The changes brought a whole slew of problems, including a frustrating problem where the door that won’t open. Is it too late to go back?
Just had the driver's door lock actuator replaced a month earlier - was able to convince dealership that it was a recurring problem while it was under warranty. However, this issue with the rear door latch was not under warranty.
The back door on the driver's side of my vehicle will NOT open from the outside or from the inside. In essence, this door is inoperable. No one can enter from that side of the vehicle and no one can get out of the vehicle from that side. This is exactly the second time this has happened to my 2011 Kia Sorento in exactly one year. I believe this to be a manufacturer's defect. This is unacceptable and annoying because I paid too much money for this vehicle to have the doors malfunction in this manner and it's also a safety hazard.
