This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Rear drum brakes squealed loudly, and it did not feel as if they were working in moist conditions. Also, a steering gear bracket weld cracked, making it difficult to steer vehicle. At low speeds consumer had difficult maintaining control. Steering wheel was flopping around.
Brake lining shattered and separated from brake shoe, causing rear wheel to lock up. Upon inspection and repair, the brake lining was otherwise not worn enough to warrant total failure of the part and appears instead to be the result of a defect.
Both right brake shoe linings came off of the backing plates and broke apart into pieces that jammed the wheel. The left shoes were beginning to come apart in the same manner. The linings had very little wear, and were the original factory pieces. The partial loss of rear brakes and jammed wheel would have been very dangerous at higher speeds.
The breaks have been a problem since I got the car every 2mo they need to be checked. The fire they said a rock or something cut a hose and it leaked causing the fire. Pls help me I have a lemon.
Car does not come to a smooth stop. Excessive rattling and jostling comprise about 85% of all stops or slow downs. The problem has become increasingly worse over time.
Two weeks after I purchased the vehicle the brakes went, 4 weeks after they were replaced they needed service again and every 4 weeks after that. Each time they make a grinding noise and the car is not driveable, the car has been towed to the dealerdhip to be serviced under warranty but they have yet to fit me in for service about the starter and the brakes again. I really would like to know what can be done about this, I refuse to keep driving a car that I do not feel safe in. Thank you breanne dubay
I purchased the car in Aug. 1998, one month later the oil, battery, engine light came on. I had to get the car towed. As of March, 1999 I had to take the car in for brake failure on several occasions. I have all the service order slips. Sometime is July or August I had to call the tow truck again, car would not start. The tow truck driver said it was because of the A/C. I had a defective battery. As of July 31, 1999 I had no A/C took car in for services on Aug 4th. Repair done, not! as of Aug 6th no A/C. bernickie had to order the hose. After several attempts to resolve this matter, on Sept 9th I called service the hose finally came in. However, they were unable to fix the A/C due to some type of blockage they said. This car is still new, I 've only had it for one year. I need some feed back please.
We have replaced the rotors and brake pads 4 times and the drums once. The car has difficulty starting and taking off. Various problems concerning minor problems, seat cushion, lighter, A/C, gas spewing back out of tank etc. Our major concern is the braking system which started six weeks after purchase and hasn't ended yet. The Kia representative is uncooperative.
