Was driving home at highway speeds (110 Km/hr") when suddenly smoke began pouring from beneath the hood and through the interior air vents. Immediately pulled over and found oil POURING from underneath the vehicle. We thought for sure it might have been on fire due to all of the smoke. Luckily a car pulled in behind us to help get our son and dogs out of the vehicle as he too thought it was on fire underneath. Found several large pieces of metal covered in oil, which ended up being pieces of the block. Diagnosis is that the piston went through the block, however the Kia dealer refuses to warranty the problem as it was serviced at other locations other than their dealership. Note that I live nearly two hours away from the nearest Kia dealer. Sadly, my receipts from oil changes are probably on the side of the highway, covered in the remnants of the oil from the engine . Understandably, I was in quite a hurry to get what I needed and get away from he vehicle, and my priority was for my registration and roadside assistance to contact a tow truck. NOT my oil change receipts from various places I stopped at through my travels. Needless to say, I'm finding myself having a battle on my hands, as they do not want to warranty it, and am facing a minimum $10,000 CAD repair bill for a new engine. Now I'm faced with no loaner car, a vehicle with a MASSIVE repair bill, and a rather unsatisfactory experience with the car maker in general.
