The dealer confirmed there was no reasonable explanation for why the rod went through the oil pan. The vehicle had oil in it and they could tell the vehicle had been properly maintained. I opened a case with Kia but they said the car was too far out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. If there is a recall later I will be notified. $12,000 for a new engine on a car that only has 115,000 miles is ridiculous. Seems very familiar to the recall Kia had with their 4 cylinder engines so be aware as your vehicle starts to get over 100,000 miles. I had no warning whatsoever that this would happen. No check engine light, nothing. Just driving down the street and the vehicle made a horrible noise and then stopped. I could see a huge puddle of oil underneath the van.
