Car was running fine before going grocery shopping. After my grocery shopping got in the car and started the car, it was making a loud banging noise coming from the engine. I called a family member and they told me to get it tow to the mechanic. Well we took it to the mechanic and the mechanic said the engine was knocking, that it spun a bearing and that the engine needed to come out for further investigation, but that I might need a new engine. I been doing some research and found out that Kia have a class action lawsuit for engine failure but they all seem for smaller engines not then 3.3 v6 which is having the same problem as the small engines.

I have a 2015 Kia Sedona that I have owned for 4 years. I have regularly had the oil changed by a company in my town. For the last year, my van has completely ran out of oil without any type of oil light coming on. I park in our garage and there has never been any oil leak out that I can visibly see so it didn't make sense that it would be out of oil without a leak of some kind. I had the oil changed around the 2nd week of May, 2022. On May, 27, 2022 as we were 3 hours from home on the interstate, the engine started making a knocking sound. We pulled over, checked the oil (which was still full), and then towed it home the following day.

We called Kia and was told it would be $9,000 to replace the engine. Our son had just had an engine replaced by Kia for free because he had the same kind of issue with his car (Kia Optima) and there was an extended warranty issue for it. We were told by the dealership that they were aware of oil leak issues but there was nothing on the Sedona.

We took it to a local repair shop who said that the engine looked like the oil had never been changed before. They sent me photos of the inside of the engine that had caramelized oil all over the inside of it. I have attached some of the photos. They even called Kia because at 120,000 miles, the engine should not look like this. They were told by Kia that they were unware of any kind of oil leak or engine problem, which is different than what our local Kia Service Department told us in May.

There are several recalls on Kia cars and Hyundai vehicles for this exact situation but not for the Kia Sedona. So now I am out $8,000 for a brand new engine on what is a known problem. It's very frustrating to say the least.
