A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

There have been several incidents where the sliding doors on my 2012 Kia Sedona did not seem to operate properly. I had this looked at once while vehicle was at the dealership for scheduled service - they lubricated the body molding and weather strips. This is not a solution.

This past weekend while on my way home - alone with my 4 year old twins, we stopped for gas and I was not able to open either sliding door. I tried the remote, the open/close button inside the van, I turned off the power and tried to physically open them from the outside, reached through the back to open from the inside - NOTHING WORKED! I was getting very panicked at the idea that my kids were trapped in the vehicle. Not willing to leave my children in the car to go inside the gas station I left. My children are now sensing my emotions and they are crying, the interior lights will not shut off and the open door chime is continuously beeping.

As I was driving down the road the passenger sliding door suddenly opens. When I came to an immediate stop the interior light shut off and the chime stopped. I pulled over, closed the door and tried again to open the drivers side - still nothing. I shut off the vehicle and turned it back on thinking perhaps it was something electrical. Nothing I did worked. As soon as I hit the accelerator again the lights were back on and the chimes started again. Repeat all of the above - twice the passenger side came open while the car was in motion. By the time I made it home I was frantic, my kids were frantic. My husband tried repeatedly to get the door open, we park in the garage, he soaked it with warm water, there was no way it was going to open.

What if there were an emergency?! I felt as though my kids were in a death trap! Now I see Kia is aware of this problem and takes no responsibility??? You have to be joking! My car is at the dealership now and I have been told they wont do anything unless they can re-create the problem. Well whoever thinks that is any kind of service can drive their family around in that van and they can keep it until they figure this out. I am furious.

Update from Apr 3, 2015: There are a couple notations to this initial complaint. I believe it should have been categorized differently. There are also 2 separate issues which I see need to be addressed separately. The issue of the door opening while the vehicle is in motion will be cross-posted.

Secondly - the vehicle remains at the dealership. They have had it since Monday and have been unable to duplicate the problem. I have contacted Kia Consumer Service - they have assigned a case but after multiple phone calls I have yet to be contacted by anyone.

This is a safety issue - at what point do I get Kia's attention?
