Both sliding side doors can no longer be opened. Apparently KIA uses plastic clips in the door track and once they are broke the doors cannot be opened from the inside or the outside. This effectively traps the passengers in the back of the van in the case of a crash. This is also a problem on newer models and those models have been recalled, but not mine. I have not yet had it fixed because anecdotally I have heard that the only way to access the clips is to remove the interior of the door. The interior of the door cannot be removed while the side sliding door is closed. In order to fix it, people posting videos of the fix on YouTube have shown how they had to basically destroy the interior of the door to access the clips. Thus making a relatively low cost fix pretty expensive.

I am beyond shocked at the low quality of Kia vehicles in general. I wish I had read reviews before I purchased this van because it is obvious from the online reviews they are nothing but junk. As soon as I am able to junk this van I will.

2008 Kia Sedona. Passenger sliding door repeatedly failed to latch closed and would keep opening when you closed it. Once we did get it closed the door opened while driving. The dealer informed her a service bulletin on the sliding door and latch had been issued and the vehicle would be repaired free of charge. The service bulletin identified the cause of the sliding door problem as improperly maintained latches. According to Kia, accumulated road dirt may cause the latches to stick by impeding rotation of the latch around the pin. Kia offered consumers who had experienced the problem a modified door latch kit that permits road dirt to readily exit the latch assembly to remove the cause of the door failure.

Although Kia was aware of this dangerous design defect owners were never notified about the problem and replaces only the one latch that has failed rather than replacing both defective latches. Kia charges the customer for the repair if failure occurs after the warranty period.

The sliding doors stick. They are not automatic. A woman cannot open them often times, especially if the door has not been used in several days. Talcum powder on the rubber gasket did not fix the problem. When stuck, a man has to yank hard and throw his body backward to get it to open. It is not locked, either.

Took the car into the Kia dealership 4 times for the same/simalar issues. The sliding door malfunctioned. So while under warrenty the the driver side was repaird twice and hte passenger side once. The issues were always considered slighly different each time but to the consumer they were all the sliding door isn't working right.

Now after the warranty period, the sliding door malfunctions again. This time while driving the door flies open on a freeway. Fortunately my children weren't in the car with me.

I took the the car to Paul Cerame Kia of St Louis. They knew it was under an ongoing campaign, but was going to charge me up to $600 for the repair that should have been covered. I found out because I was like this is crazy when I have taken the car to them for sliding door issues while under repair. They even stated that they couldn't find the recall, campaign instructurions etc. He contacted that Kia Headquarters (or pretended to), and after finding out the details of several ongoing and resolved law suits and campaigns they were willing to work with me.

Now its bring in your car and we will repair it. I am so upset about this issue. I will not be buying another KIA.
