On 8-13-19 I had just entered Hwy 68 in Frostburg, MD. After entering, I put my blinker on to go left into the fast lane. As I went to go around the vehicle in front of me, my accelerator went to the floor "I felt it leave my foot". I was accelerating, going very fast! "I was panicking....I grabbed my phone in case i had to call 911 if I could not stop!" Luckily there were no cars in front of me; lucky this was a long straight away. My vehicles speed was going 85 miles per hour; and my vehicle was trying to go faster. At this point I was pressing with both feet on the brake leaning so far back into my seat my body was straight; after pressing as hard as I could I moved to the right lane, then side of road. I must have traveled at least a 1/2 a mile before I got it slow to 45-50. I decided I was going to put in neutral, so I did this and something made a load noise, I got it under 40 but was still pressing the brakes as hard as I could. "My vehicle was still trying to accelerate". At this point I said the hell with it and through it into park; again another loud noise, but it slowed to a stop on the shoulder, and I turned it off!!!
I sat there shaking trying to figure this out. I was afraid to drive it, but did not have the money for a tow truck. I called the Kia dealer, explained what happened; all they said was, oh, we can make you an appointment. I ask if there were any recalls and they said none. I decided to start it up and try driving it. So far it has not done it again.
Today's date is 8-25-19. I have since spoken to several garages which all seem to think this is my throttle control sensor, or a cable, or the throttle compartment needs cleaned, or that that something is sticking and needs oiled. No one can pin point the issue that almost killed me! I had two ways of going where I needed to travel this day. Had I decided to go through town instead of the freeway I would not have had any room trying to stop - I would have crashed! I have no idea what the problem is or how much it is going to cost to repair? But this is a serious issue! Could have resulted in fatalities. Truly scary and horrifying!!!
