Water first noticed on the drivers side rear seat, around the seat belt buckle. After further investigation, the floorboard in front of this seat, under the seat, the lower portion of the back of the seat were soaked. I used a steam cleaner to suck out about two cups of water from the car. I checked in the truck, the carpet was damp behind the rear seat, drivers side only and the spare tire well had about 3†of standing water. We have been unsuccessful in locating any areas on the body where the water is coming in. No water anywhere else.
Now that the car is dry and so is the weather, I am going to sprinkle baking soda on all the areas that were affected, close up the car and run water over it. Once I have located where it’s coming in I will either take it in for repair or I will use a sealant on it myself and see if that solves the problem.
We are thinking that the water could be coming in from the roof, there are two removable cover strips on either side of the roof, running front to back, apparently it’s to attach a luggage rack(?).
Update from Mar 15, 2019: Well after drowning the car, not one drop, showed up where I put the baking soda (by the way, the car smells wonderful now) but in the trunk, on the passenger side, closest to the bumper, a small stream of water is coming in and running towards the spare tire well. So it wasn’t operator error. And I will keep an eye on the trunk and drain as needed. Repairs will have to wait til I can find a reasonable body shop and Thanks for letting me complain
