Well once again, key fob cracked & key fell out. Was pumping gas at the time. Found metal key on the ground. If U lose that, it costs another $100 to replace. They couldn't just fix pin, cause it was cracked where key was attached to fob. You also have to buy brand new fob, & also get it programmed for $50. Total cost....close to $230. Has anyone had this problem? I have a 2012 Kia Rio.
Bought 2012 Kia Rio on May 9, 2015. In July I was out shopping & had put my key/remote in my pocket. When I was ready to go home, the key/metal was missing out of the remote. Checked my pocket & it was there. Decided to try to start car by putting metal key into remote & it started, so I got home. When I took key out of ignition, the metal key fell on the floor.
Went to dealer & they said I needed a whole new remote. Cost $49.95 to program it. Total was $192 for parts & labor. Service said it wasn't covered under warranty. If I hadn't have had the metal key part, I would've had to pay an extra $98 for that part.
This should be covered under warranty. Have been reading that it's up to dealer's discretion, if it's covered under warranty or not. Have also been reading that there has been an issue with broken keys for some of the Kia models. If it's an issue, why isn't it covered by warranty?
