The contact owns a 2012 Kia Optima hybrid. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle started to overheat. A warning light illuminated indicating that the hybrid battery power was low. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact coasted to the side of the road and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to jts Kia of columbia (230 killian commons parkway, columbia, SC 29203) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Kia Optima hybrid. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle started to slow down and then stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hybrid battery failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
