I bought this car brand new in 2012. I've been the sole owner and driver of my vehicle. At 64K miles my starter went bad. KIA didn't replace under warranty. I previously had a Ford Explorer 2002 and replaced in 2012. Took poor care of it and it had 130K miles. Never had a single problem.

Now, my steering wheel is shaking at 65MPH and above. I brought it to my mechanic. They think it's an intermediate shaft issue (apparently a common KIA problem) but nope. They've taken the dash board apart 3 times now. KIA was supposed to ship them parts 3 different times now and only now did they ship the part. However, this doesn't matter because it didn't repair the issue.

I've set an appointment for this week. Let's see what the outcome is. My bet is KIA is going to try to screw me. My mechanic told me a new steering column would be about $3K. Well that's bologna. I'd rather set the car on fire since I've had numerous issues that i should not have had. Had never had with any other car I've ever owned.

It's a rubber gasket on the steering column that's supposed to dampen road noise. The second I started describing the problem he service tech knew exactly what it was. It's a very common problem that they refuse to acknowledge is the result of inferior parts.

Optima ES 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Steering wheel clicks, hits loose and tight spots when turning and is hard to steer, tightens and locks while driving and force has to be used to turn wheel, have to fight it and overcome the locked spot and the car drifts all over the road, cant hold it straight.. getting worse.
