I'm driving on 495 South in MD (Upper Marlboro/Bladensburg exit) in the second to left lane during 5pm rush hour traffic, and the tractor trailer in front of me stops. I push on my brakes and they don't work. I tried pumping them and still nothing. I hit the back of the tractor trailer at approximately 30-35 mph. The semi starts to move forward and I depress the gas pedal to move forward and try to get over to exchange info and he brakes again, stopping. The same thing happens. I tried to push my brakes several times and nothing happened.
I put it in park and even tried to use my emergency brake, but my car still accelerated to 30-35mph and advanced. I hit the semi a second time. After I hit the semi in the rear my car continued to accelerate and tried to move forward. This caused me to continuously drive into the rear of the semi. This time I did more damage to my car and had to pull to the side of the road. The car was towed because I couldn't safely drive it. Police report filed.
