Bought the car from a large car dealership in Everett WA, and one month later engine was knocking hard. Lower rod bearings were replaced to try and save the engine. Engine died 30 miles later.
Bought my 2007 Optima brand new, kept good care of it and well maintained. After 60k miles I ran into problem after problem. I'm told now I need a new engine because the rod broke and there are metal shavings in oil pan? I just paid about 1,000.00 in April 2018 to diagnose and fix the "airbag" recall problem and my fuel filter so my car could pass inspection. Multiple problems with check engine light from sensors to gas cap. Electric to headlights are bad, can't even see at night.
I have no idea how I am going to pay to replace my motor??? After everything I have read in the past 2 days it sounds that Kia should be responsible for the engine problems, as they all seem to be the same! You buy a car with the hopes that as long you maintain the car and be good to it, they should last a lot longer than 100,00 miles.
My car is a 2007 so Kia has had this problem for awhile I guess. It is an Optima with a 2.4l has 148068 miles and check engine light came on no noise, drove another 25 miles and engine was shot--rattling and banging, no signs or anything. Around $2,500.00 I will drive it again, now may think of trading!
I meticulously maintained this vehicle. At 108,000 miles, the engine had a major mechanical failure. Took it to the mechanic. His suggestion, don't waste your money. The vehicle had been babied and still looked new! The mechanic bluntly told me this car would cost more to fix than it was worth. He claimed this would be the first of a long list of mechanical problems. Donated it to a charity. They sold it at auction for $600. Reading about the many problems with the 2.4 engine, I understand his point. I couldn't have been more careful or caring with this vehicle. Kia - What a crappy car! Can't believe they are allowed to pawn this junkers off on the American public.

My daughter was driving this vehicle when it started making very loud noises, she lost control of steering and brakes. The engine light when on, then went off, then went on again. The car would not stop. This was dangerous as she had to coast to stop. The mechanic said the rod inside the engine broke and the oil spilled into the engine. It is total engine failure. Would cost $4,000.00 to fix with a used engine with 100k miles. The car is going to salvage, we did not replace engine because we didn't want the same engine back into the vehicle to have the same problem occur again. There were no warning signs this was going to happen.
My daughter was driving the vehicle and it started slowing down on it's own. Then a loud clanking sound started. She pulled over as there were no warning lights or anything going on. She had approx 1000 more miles before next oil change. We had to get it towed to repair shop who told her the engine seized and she would need get a new or rebuilt engine. A big disappointment, I bought this car for her for reliability for her job as a Social worker visiting clients.
This happened during the 4th of July weekend and we have not replaced the engine yet as the repair shop told us he is getting reports this engine is junk and not worth the money.
2007 Kia Optima purchased new. On 7/23/2014, without any warning, the engine stopped. I was lucky enough to be able to pull over to the side of the road. There was smoke from the engine and a small fire. I had the car towed and was told that there is a hold in the engine. Another dealer said the engine is shot and repair costs $7,000. I still have an unpaid loan on this car. I took care of the car and had all recommended maintenance, new tires, oil changes, etc.
This car is junk. Please DO NOT PURCHASE Kia. Really BAD. I could have been in a serious accident.
