Mice ate our soy-based fuel lines, according to mechanics. We were vacationing about 130 miles from our residence when we started our Kia on a Friday morning. It smelled like gasoline all around. We went outside, popped the hood, and watched as gasoline spewed from one line into the engine. After calling several mechanics on Thanksgiving weekend, we were told not to drive it or even start it. We decided to tow it the 130 miles back to a mechanic in New York. When he looked at the car, he told us that, "yep, mice ate the high pressure fuel line." He said the mice love the soy, especially when you park it outside. It is currently at the shop, and I have had to incur towing fees and other favors to get to work. We have not received the bill but it is not going to be cheap- probably just under $1000. All of this because of a mouse and Kia's insistence to be environmentally friendly with soy instead of plastic.
For the record, we did not take it to the Kia dealer. They were not open, and our previous experience with them has been slow and inefficient. For example, there were several recalls on this car. When we took it in, they did not give us a loaner, and kept it for several days. When talking to the service department, most had no idea what the recall was about, and how much time it would take. That's why we chose not to go to the dealer when time was important.
