I purchased my car used with 35k miles on it. It currently has 65,300 miles on it (I put 30,300 miles in over almost 4 years with 6 fully synthetic oil changes (maintenance was not an issue). After owning the car for 3 yrs 8mo the engine started knocking. Took it directly to Kia and was informed within 5hrs that my engine was shot and metal shavings found in oil and they needed my maintenance records. Once I sent the records to them the warranty company JM&A sent an inspector to inspect the car. A few days later I received a call from Kia telling me in order to find out if the warranty company JM&A would do the repair/replacement I would have to be willing to pay for 15 hours $2900 (@ $193 hr.). of labor to break down my engine to determine what part caused the issue.
I have my oil changed at a max of every 5k miles (normally every 3-4k) with full synthetic oil. I was told before any inspection that I had metal shavings in my oil pan or filter not sure which, this was 1 day after having the oil changed and it was a muddy brown color. I have a loaner car, Kia K5 that only has 112 miles on it and it already has an oil light and coolant light on. Before the loaner car, I had to rent a car that happened to be a Kia Optima. Go figure, I was told to ignore the lights on the dash because they always come on. My only advice after driving my 2017 Kia Cadenza which drove better than the 2019 Kia Optima and the 2023 Kia K5. They all drive like s*#t! I'm waiting to hear back from Kia as to whether or not the warranty company JM&A will approve my engine replacement or if I have to pay the initial fee of $200 to diagnose my car with the engine light on and the warranty companies JM&A demand to have Kia do an engine break down for $2900 just to tow my car to another repair shop since Kia is telling me that my engine repairs will total approx. $20K ( I paid less for the car with 35k miles) SMH. BTW did I mention the warranty company is JM&A lol? I already have a lawyer who will take my case and has sued Kia for the same reason and won (They only get paid if we win). I'll update this post once I get the news if it will be approved or denied.
KIA & JM&A all I can say is DO BETTER!!!! for everyone who is thinking about buying ANY KIA PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO DON'T.
