Issue was fixed under warranty with a $100 deductible. The dealership has been helpful and thorough, no complaint there. Messed up the driveway with spots here and there, but wasn't a major leak fortunately. Not enough to cause a fire so I'm glad of that. I'm rather upset to hear that it is a common problem that could have been avoided had Jeep used more appropriate materials. They really should recall this and replace with a more robust solution. The idea that the next failure is only a matter of entropy due to time and temperature is a bit unsettling. Imagine if this was a catastrophic failure on trail puking a large amount of oil polluting the environment. Then on top of that you get to sit there until recovery can be managed, or perhaps be dragged out by a friend or kind fellow off-roader.

It seems the complaints go back a few years, and it is really upsetting that Jeep has not addressed this problem yet. It pretty much says that they not only don't care about their product and customer, but they aren't troubled by their contribution to needless soil pollution on trail. I armored the crap out of my undercarriage to minimize the potential of damage (potential break down and ultimately loss of fluid due to the damage) only to have the recklessness of Jeep's engineering mitigate my efforts. Great work Jeep!

This made me miss a trip to Pismo.
