Took vehicle to Miracle Automotive / Jeep Chrysler dealer where it was purchased for an oil change (to keep in warranty), replace a bad alternator, and front engine seal. Fast forward 2 weeks, just after the wife drove the Jeep home... we found an oil leak on the ground. Upon starting to try and find from where the leak is... oil came flooding out. Of course now I have a very large oil spot on my driveway...
I could see (see pics) the oil appeared to be coming from the rear of the engine but above the transmission housing. Investigation lead me to believe that it's the engine oil cooler, which was verified by the dealership today. However they will not cover the issue. I'm now finding there's tons of complaints about the engine oil coolers on the 3.7 V6 Pentastar engines. However there's been no national recall program by the NHTSA. This could've easily been a "driving down the road and your jeep catches on fire" deal. Thank God it wasn't. But had the oil reached the exhaust pipes...who knows.
Given the "Jeep" name... I would've thought Jeep would step up to the plate and address this issue. From what I'm seeing this has been going on for years. Enough they changed the make up about 2014 of the metal engine oil cooler to a plastic one... and it's still not working as it should. Absolutely amazing!!!
I will be talking in person to the dealership tomorrow. Seriously considering addressing the "Lemon Law" due to the purchase of the vehicle on September 9th 2020. And already having 2 Major issues. We will see but I'm not holding my breath. Apparently the JEEP products are not what they use to be.
BTW, from what I see on auto parts pages, the engine oil cooler is around a $300 dollar part.... Which means that will turn into a $600 or more part, plus labor. Like I said we will see tomorrow and I'll then update... hopefully with a positive outcome!!!
