I am a mail carrier and travel many washboard-type gravel roads. After only 6 months of use going down a pot hole-ridden drive my check engine light came on and ESP light came on. Once I got home I checked to see what the code was on my OBD. I forgot what the code initially was but I went online only to find that it wasn't a valid code.
I took it to the dealership the next day only to find that they thought it could be a clip that needed to be replaced (which was a recall) and it was okay to drive. The next week I had to stop in to have the clip replaced (they had to order the part). Didn't fix the problem. So I took it back again! Only to find that they didn't know but to leave my Jeep in the shop overnight.
At this point I started experiencing power problems especially going up a hill and it was almost as if the transmission wasn't shifting into the next gear. Not only that but my Jeep would cut off at random times if I hit a bump or made a sharp turn. I told that to the service department. All they did was tightened the clip and rode it around and couldn't get the lights to come on.
Next day while on my route...lights came on, same power problems and cutting off! Took it to the dealership a 4th time at this point only to sit for 3 hours while they contacted the Chrysler engineers. I had a computer update done. Next day, out on my route, SAME THING!
At this point I was so frustrated. I called the dealership to be informed that the next thing was to leave my Jeep in the shop AGAIN to have the camshaft position sensor replaced. I am home today to have this done. I am really hoping this fixes the problem. I won't give up but after 5 times at the dealership and taking 2 days off of work I am REALLY PISSED at this point and am looking into the lemon laws and my rights if this isn't resolved.
Update from Jun 1, 2016: The camshaft positioning sensor that was replaced did not fix the problem. I was back on my route after having to take two days off for this "fix". Same problems. All during this time the dealership is now talking to the engineers at Chrysler trying to come up with the solution. After another 10 days the ECM is replaced. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is the solution...NO! FINALLY the mechanic at the dealership happened to come across the problem by accident...loose wires in the motor. Sorry that I can't be more specific. LOOSE WIRES???? Once that was fixed all of my problems went away...no more check engine light, no more trac control light, no more lost power. It's been almost a year and I'm problem free.
