Wrangler Sport 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Bought the Jeep with 36,800 miles on it. First thing was the engine dies after I start it and put it in Drive or reverse. Also it dies while sitting in traffic. Once it does, I put the auto shifter back in PARK to restart it, put back in the position I was going, and it takes like 5 seconds for the transmission to shift. Did it to me coming to a stop on the Freeway in rush hour. That is scary. Also the A/c blower just stops working and then kicks back on, the window would not work one time. Had to kill the engine and restart and then it worked fine. Radio Bluetooth just stopped connecting like 2 days ago. One time I started it and the started just turned over slow and sounded like the jeep was a diesel. had to turn the key to off to get it to stop. So have had a ton of crap going wrong on this thing. Took to the dealer for the stalling and they thought transmissionI issue and reflashed the transmission module. No change. Been researching today and found out about the TIPM which sounds to be the culpret. I am going to take it to the dealer and ask them to look into that. They probably just dont want to fix it! 29,000 for a lemon.

  • Manual transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Jeep randomly stalls and dies when driving. Has happened numerous times in the past 4 months. We have had the O2 sensor replaced, the PCM replaced and the TIPM replaced. Stalls and engine still dies. Seems to be getting worse. Dealership suggested contacting Chrysler and looking into the Lemon Law. I am so done with this piece of junk!!!

Update from Nov 29, 2016: Still happening!!! Jeep dealership told me to either deal with it, stop driving it, or to contact Chrsyler Corporation directly. We are moving on with arbitration.

Wrangler Sahara 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,002 miles

Jeep lurches randomly as if the transmission is going bad but I am pretty sure it is an electrical/computer issue that also causes the vehicle to stall out at times. This has been occurring for about the last 25k miles and sometimes happens multiple times in a drive and sometimes goes a week without.

Jeep keeps stalling at random times. This happens most often after starting up and backing out of a parking spot but it has also happened in extremely dangerous situations like going through an intersection or driving down the highway at 65mph.

Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,013 miles

Random stalling while driving and in idle. Sometimes Jeep turns right back on, sometimes I have to wait for 10-15 min before it'll start. No warning signs before it shuts off. Has happened about 6 times in last month, the worst I was traveling 45 mph in traffic. Had to sit, blocking traffic for 15 min before it started again. Have had it to the dealer once already, no codes at all, they couldn't find anything. When it tries to start and does not, the started just runs for 5 - 10 sec, throttle body light and transmission light are lit. But once it starts, minutes later, no lights on, no codes. Going back tomorrow to dealer for more looking. Wishing for best, but it's a safety issue to me so wanted to report.

Update from Jan 25, 2017: Finally figured out how to recreate problem. While it's going down the road 35-45 ish, take your foot off the gas for several seconds and then stomp on the gas. It would hiccup and then go. Did it several times to make sure I could do it, went by the dealer to set appt. Went and did same thing several more times and the jeep finally threw error codes... MAKE SURE YOU KEEP RUNNING. I left running and dealer was able to pull codes to determine issue with the CRANK SENSOR. Change out cost me $160, and hasn't done it since.

Note: after dealer had pulled codes, they turned it off and the jeep reset itself. He wouldn't have been able to determine. That's why when it cut off going down the road and it finally would restart the dealer could not find anything. Apparently works like a RAM and a ROM. Some things stay after on/off.

Good luck to everyone else.

Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Just had vehicle out of shop a few weeks for same issue. PCM was changed out so I figured the dying at highway speeds was the least of my worries. Again I was driving on the freeway at highway speeds while in the middle lane and out of no where, with zero warnings, the jeep again shuts down on me. Rodeo ride number two. Again the throttle warring light comes on and I maneuver the vehicle over to the right shoulder. Again when I attempt to re-start the jeep the ignition fails to work; it just gives me the err, err, err sound over and over again. I sit on the side of the road again for roughly ten minutes and finally get the jeep to start. I take the jeep in again for service and again they say they need to flash the PCM. After they flash the PCM the problem is still there so they change out the PCM for a second time. Problem did go away finally.

Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon V6

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Just got jeep out of the dealer after getting something re-flashed because the jeep shuts down on its own when at a red light, stop sign or just parked while in drive. it will also die when I place the jeep in reverse. the transmission also feels like it wants to jump through the floor board every so often while just driving at normal speeds. It will just lurch forward it feels like and will do it some times only one time, up to three times or more (bang, bang, bang). I receive no warning lights of any kind on the display panel.

I again took the jeep in to the same dealer and asked if they could send a maintenance tech with me to see what is happening. I was asked if it would happen and I told them I was not sure cause it doesn't happen every time. I was then told they did not have one available and they would not be able to look at the jeep unless they could duplicate the issue. The problem continued to get worse and worse as time went on to where it would even die as soon as i turned the vehicle on the first thing in the morning.

I decided to take the jeep in every time it would happen and have them put there code reader on the jeep and at least document that the problem was happening. As always no codes were tripped so they just turned the jeep over to me. On one of the days I took the jeep in to the same dealership to have the code reader ran again, I was waiting for a service tec writer to come out and the jeep turned off. And guess what, one of there employees was right there with me. So I asked him if he saw that and he stated yes, so I told him to listen and watch. I placed the jeep in park, re-started the jeep and placed in drive. 30 to 45 seconds later he could hear the transmission finally go into gear.

The service tec writer came out and I told him what had just happened, and asked if a maintenance guy would go with me on a test drive with me. Again he asked the same question; will the jeep die on me. I again said I am not sure. Luckily the employee who witnessed the problem said it did die on me and said go get a maintenance guy. We went for a drive and as we stopped at a red light the jeep shut down. I placed it in park, re-started the jeep and placed in drive, As normal it took 30 to 45 seconds for the transmission to get in gear.

The maintenance guy told me to drive back into the service bay and talk to his supervisor about the problem and that he thought it might be the transmission being the problem. Now I was ready to jump for joy that I got the problem to duplicate not only once, but twice now. When we pulled into the maintenance bay, I placed the jeep in park and left the vehicle started while we were talking about the problem. Within a few minutes the jeep just shut down in front of now two maintenance guys. I really quick asked them both to listen and watch what I do. I got in started the jeep and placed in drive. As normal 30 to 45 seconds later the transmission went into gear. Only then did they take the jeep in.

I gave them the jeep on 07/01/2016 with 76832 miles on it. I got the phone call to pick up the jeep and on 08/03/2016 with 77081 miles now showing, i did go pick up jeep. Now this Chrysler dealer kept my jeep for an entire month and from what the paper work states has now really pissed me off.

The paper work they gave me states the following:

"Vehicle dies at random.. Mainly when he comes to a stop. Then transmission wont engage for 30 seconds after he restarts the vehicle, check and advise".

"Road test vehicle to verify customer concern and vehicle stalled every time when vehicle came to a stop. Contacted star center and star center told me to replace valve body. I replaced valve body and performed procedure of replacing valve body and road test vehicle again. Problem still there. Contacted star center and told me to swap throttle body cam and crank sensor from a different running vehicle and condition is worse".

"I put back all original parts. after I put back original parts and found PCM flash update. I flashed PCM from 68149829AE to 68149829AF SB# 18-025-16. After flash road test vehicle again for 200 miles. Vehicle hasn't stalled at this time".

Now I picked up vehicle and the next day, the same problem is still present, if not worse with transmission thumping more often and vehicle dying on me more often. I called the service department to let them know fo issues and asked if they had a plan on what to do next when I bring it in. The supervisor said I would need to duplicate the problem in order for them to do any thing. I blew a gasket. I will call the care center in the AM and see if something can be done other then duplicate the problem.

While driving down the freeway at 70 miles an hour running smooth, the vehicle just shuts down with throttle warning light showing on the display panel. I had to quickly maneuver through traffic with out power steering and pull over on shoulder. When I tried to restart the vehicle by turning the key to the start position, the ignition would just make a squealing sound. I had to sit on the freeway shoulder for roughly ten minutes. Finally it started and things worked as normal. Took to Larry H. Miller Chrysler dealer and they found that the program control module was bad. They removed and replaced the part and had no problem for few weeks.

  • Manual transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I have 2013 Jeep Rubicon with 40K miles, manual transmission, 2.5 inch lift, 35 inch tires.

After driving for some time, more than 30 minutes at highway speeds, turn off do some stuff (pumping gas or shopping). Start the Jeep, put it in gear and go, after 20 feet or so she stalls and will not start. Have cranking power but will not turn over. Sit for 5-10 minutes and she starts right up with out any symptoms. Can hear a odd sound coming from right below vehicle centrally located (transmission) as I crank (only hear for a split second when it will not turn over) ....... Have noticed at times that when I need to accelerate, it can be hesitant..(jerky then she stalls) Have had it in the shop, no problems found, no error messages

I have seen other post on other forums with the same symptoms, with no follow up or solutions. This has happened at an intersection one time. I am worried this could become a safety issue. Total times of occurrence, 5-7, usually the temperature was in the 50s and above.

This is happening more and more. It is happening in dangerous places, leaving me worried about driving. Anyone have fix??

Update from Apr 27, 2016: fixed, after taking to dealer (no help at all), my local mechanic fixed it, replaced the crank shaft position sensor

My 2013 Jeep Wrangler cuts off on me while I'm driving. I will have to wait several minutes before I can crank it back on and it will start up. I had took it to the dealership and they had told me it was a computer problem. I feel that Chrysler should take care of this because it does this as I'm driving and me or someone can get hurt because of this problem.

Ok, I have had the 5th, while driving, engine stall. This time on a two way street in downtown Miami. That is always a fun thing. This does not include the 2 times it would not start after getting into to leave after the work day.

I have 66672 miles on it the last time it stalled. I am very concerned about this defect as it has happened while driving on the interstate at 60 mph. I really think this thing is going to kill me. I love my jeep, when it runs.

It is at the dealership for the 5th time. This is the 3rd day it has been in the shop and nothing yet. At least this time they have called and asked me more specifics on the failures, so I have a little more hope.

This episode started after I started the jeep up and left the parking garage, I probably drove it about 300 yards. I came out of the parking garage, turned onto the street and made an immediate right turn onto another street where it stalled. I was on a 2 lane street in downtown and maybe driving 5mph. I tried to start 3 times and it just turned over but did not start. Got the lightning bolt after all the other warning lights went off upon starting. I then just sat there and after 10mins it started up and I drove off. Did not stall for the next 515 miles, at which time I made it back to the dealership.

I wish I could get it fixed, I would love to do some mods to it.

About a month ago I was in the middle of a 4 hour drive I do on a weekly basis and 2 hours into the drive my vehicle stalled as I was slowing for a yellow light. There was no warning at all and it took me a second to realize it had stalled. I was able to roll out of the traffic lane onto a side road. The police showed up and helped me push it off to the side of the road. At that point I tried to start it, approximately 10mins after stalling and it started right up.

I went straight to Autozone and had a new battery installed, $250.00 and got going on my way home - fat, dumb and happy - until 2 days later when it did it again. The second time it stalled I was on a busy 12 lane Interstate 95 in downtown Miami. Again I did not know it had stalled, I was increasing speed from about 50mph to 60mph and pushed the gas pedal and nothing happened. I was in the middle of 6 lanes and immediately put my hazards on and rolled through traffic onto the side of the interstate. I waited 5 mins and it started right up and I went straight to the Chrysler dealer in Kendall, FL. They gave me a rental vehicle - thank God.

About 3 weeks later they changed out the PCM and gave it back to me - fixed (supposedly). 2 weeks later it stalled in traffic on a 4 lane hwy; waited 5 mins and it started fine, was later at the store got in the vehicle and it would not start just kept trying to crank itself, waited 5 mins later and it started. That weekend took it to Chrysler in Tampa (Jerry Ulm) they said it is not in my warranty and I paid $400.00 for what I was told was a Chrysler "work around". 2 days later it would not start and it tried to crank itself. I turned the key off and waited 5 mins and it started right up and I went directly to Kendal Chrysler, where it is sitting today as I write this.

Driving 60 on a highway and about to get onto another highway onramp and Jeep starts beeping with check engine light and red lightning bolt flashing at me, I hit gas and nothing happens but engine still running and all power functions still seemed to be working. I coasted off the road across a couple lanes off traffic (NOT A GOOD TIME!!). Then waited for a tow, AAA was there within 20 minutes which was great, but the spot where I was made it difficult for the tow truck driver. I had towed to Dan's Jeep dealership and had the Jeep back the following day. They stated after diagnosing and talking to Chrysler corporate a PCM reflash was all that was needed. I asked about TSB's or recalls and they said there weren't any.....I'm a little nervous driving on the highway that this could occur again and have deadly results...

I drive a 2013 Jeep Wrangler sport. This problem of my car shutting down while driving has become a regular thing. I took the car back to Jeep for a recall that should have fixed the issue. That was in May or last year. The car has not been repaired and the Jeep dealership Love Field Chrysler Dodge Jeep. Has not even tried to fix the issue. The last time the car shut down was today January 26th 2015. while i was driving 70mph it just shut down. I am looking for feed back or advice on this matter. This could prove to be a dangerous issue so far the 5 or 6 times it's happened I've been able to coast to the shoulder.

The car will eventually restart if you let it sit for 5-10 min. It then starts as if everything was fine. Comments

advice welcome.
