A few weeks ago I felt felt a definite loss of power in my Jeep, thought perhaps the injectors needed cleaning so poured in a bottle of STP Premium cleaner. Issue persisted so we decided the plugs needed to be done and so did them the following weekend. While they were being done the bf decided to have a look inside where the oil filter cartridge goes as a friend had recently changed his own oil and told us how this spring had just popped out and he had found the replacement part at Bumper to Bumper, well lo and behold, my spring is gone. So off I went to buy this replacement part. BF installed it. done. But the loss of power is still there and my jeep is really spitting now. Also running P0522 and P0303 codes. Having just done the spark plugs and doing a little research we decide one of the fuel injectors must be really plugged. Bottle of Lucus injector cleaner and 1/2 tank of premium shell gas. A week later and the issue still persists. Called a friend who works at a local Chrysler dealership and explained what had been happening. He suggests I bring it in to have to codes looked at (P0303 gone now, only P0522). I explained to the tech what had been happening, how the spring had been missing for I don't know how long (last 2 oil changes were done at another Chrysler dealership), spring must have broken off at the last oil change in March 2017 but nobody told me.The tech advised this is a known problem, the spring breaking off, and that now the whole oil cooler assembly had to be replaced and soon. She did not know how much damage had been caused yet (my Jeep goes in on Tuesday to have the assembly replaced) but had I not brought it in and if I don't get this replaced my engine could potentially seize. The repair will be over $800CDN!!
1. Chrysler knows this is an issue with all vehicles with the 2011-2013 Pentastar. This should be a recall fix!!
2. The dealership who did my lst 2 oil changes should cover the cost of this repair. They had to have known the spring broke off and they did not tell me nor offer to fix it. I WILL be contacting them!!
