I purchased this POS as a retirement present for my self. It was less than a year old with 10000 miles on it. The dealer told me that the heater core had been replaced. Within 12 months I lost the heat on the driver's side. I took it to the dealer who flushed the core. The heater worked fine... for about six more months. I had a check engine light issue, took it to my dealer and they reset it and informed me that my radiator was leaking...with only 48000 miles on it. The dealer wanted $800.00 to replace the radiator. I went to a radiator specialty shop and it cost me $365.00. Two months later... another check engine light. In took this thing to the dealer to get it checked out plus it was running rough...oops!...It was the cylinder head...a recall issue...no problem they fixed it. This happened in early October of this year (2015). On November 21 of this year, I lost the heat on the driver's side (again). I went to the dealer today (12/01/15)...guess what?...I need a new heater core...for the tune of $650.00 and 8 more hours of my time. This is a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport, a vehicle I've wanted since I sold my old CJ7 back in 1989. My dream vehicle...3.6 liter v6 with a six speed manual transmission, rag top.
This crapwagon has spent almost as much time in the shop as it has on the road. I am trading it tomorrow. If I can't depend on avehicle to get me from point A to point B...I don't need it. I absolutely hate this thing. I would have been better off finding a low mileage CJ...at least I could work on it...change the heater core in 10 minutes, change the plugs, not have to deal with those ridiculous tire pressure senors that cost from $30 to $85 a pop to replace. (Thank you Firestone) Needless to say I will never, never buy another Jeep Wrangler. I'll keep looking, I may find an old CJ lost in a barn somewhere...yeah, right!
This problem is a reaction between the coolant and the low oxygen braising used in making the heat exchangers. I know this because I have an analysis done by a coolant expert who told me this is an industry known standard. This is a major repair that will decrease my trade in value.
