Took to dealership because I noticed a ticking noise in the engine once it warmed up and worse accelerating. They found rod bearing on cylinder number 1 had excessive wear making the noise as a tapping sound similar to a lifter noise. They said, "Sounds like one cylinder is the problem." and they found cylinder number one rod bearing scored and scratched badly with pieces coming out of it. They inspected crankshaft, slight bearing material stuck to crankshaft, using emery cloth, they cleaned crank surface and installed new cylinder one rod bearing and torqued all rod caps.

That is the short story because they took 9 days to get it back to me and replaced this parts: 12 -valve tappet, 2 - cylinder head gaskets (left and right side), 6 - intake manifold seal, 1 - intake manifold gasket, 2 - cylinder head cover gasket, 1 - EGR tube seal, 1 - EGR tube flange gasket, 6 qts - 5w20 oil, engine oil filter & 1 -connecting rod bearing.

Wrangler Rubicon 3.8L

I have 2011 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, I purchased it in 2013 with 38,000 miles and performed all necessary maintenance. I took the jeep to get a recall performed and to get the oil changed at about 53,000 at Richardson CJDR in Richardson, Texas. They convinced me to purchase a Synthetic oil change program through CJDR,and convinced me it was a better choice since I would get 8-10K miles from the synthetic as apposed to 5-6k miles from regular oil, So I Purchased the 3 oil change program. The jeep started making a ticking noise at about about 58,000 miles, but was barely noticeable, however it continually started to get louder. My son who is the driver checked the oil and found that it was missing 2.5 quarts of oil. My son took the the jeep to a local CJDR dealership near his school and they confirmed missing oil. We changed the oil at 61,000 miles hoping the added oil would eliminate the noise and started a oil drop test to see if the engine was burning excess oil. At the same time I informed the Richardson CJDR about the missing oil, of course they denied they could have not put the right amount of oil and blamed the shortage on a defective engine which they explained has had a lot of problems.

They recommended I contact CJDR corporate complaints and warranty branch. After many call and persistence, the grudgingly kept upping their offer first a $1000, second $2000, and their last offer $3000 of a $7500 repair. They actually told me they would have covered the whole amount if I would diagnosed the problem 1200 miles sooner. They know they have have these issues, If it was a bad engine with bearing problems as they stated, the engine is a defective engine that had issues from the manufactured date.

Noticed the pinging in Spring of 2014. Went to the dealer and complained. Of course they said they didn't notice it. In November my oil light came on saying I needed an oil change and the very next day engine light came on. I checked the dipstick and literally no oil. I didn't have any leaks or wasn't burning the oil so where the hell did it go... Took it to the dealer immediately and they told me the same thing no oil.

So since then every 500 miles I needed to go back to the dealer for them to check the oil level. Finally, in April 2015 they noticed after 1,000 miles of the oil change I was down 2 quarts of oil and I had to bring it in for service. I did some research and thought it might be the piston which I was right, so after about a month of waiting for the part and adding oil every so often it's in for service right now going on a week. Diagnosis she needed new pistons and couple of the valves are shot. I miss my baby!

Wrangler Sahara 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

My Jeep had a cumputer glitch recall so it was returned to the dealership to have the computer "flashed". After this occurred, I started to hear a rattle from the chassis area and thought it was the transmission or an exhaust rattle. A friend of mine is a mechanic and I took him for a ride in the Jeep and he quickly diagnosed it as a "Ping" noise coming from the engine. He said this is likely the result of them flashing the computer for the recall. The engine will make some pretty nasty pinging noises when run on regular gas. I now have to spend more money on higher grade gas to eliminate the noise. The good news is my gas mileage went up; the bad news is I'm still spending more money on gas that i shouldn't have to use in a Jeep.
