My 2010 Jeep 4 dr. Wrangler had the rear brakes completely replaced at 61,000 miles and shortly after I noticed a squeaking sound that happened only occasion and worsened over the year to the point that it was almost constant. After having the brakes re-checked, then having the shocks and struts examined I took it back to the dealer who at first said I needed to replace my rear rotors again (16 months later) which I thought odd but agreed to. I was called back 1/2 an hour later and told my rear axle rod shaft was broken and I now need a new rear axle.
This thing is driven very mildly and has never been off road or in any type of accident yet neither the dealer nor Chrysler can tell me how at 78,000 I have a broken rear axle. I did a Google search and noticed a recall on Jeeps around my year yet I was told it did not apply to my vehicle even though the recall (L09) closely resembles the problem I'm told that I have by the dealer.
The Chrysler recall line told me I need to pay for the damage, keep my records and if a recall occurs, I can get reimbursed. I find it very odd that even though there has never been a collision of any sort nor has this vehicle been driven off road, that I have to replace my rear axle. This is our 3rd and last Jeep unfortunately, only minor problems with the other 2 but something is definitely wrong with this last one!
