The swaybar disconnect system in the 2007-2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicons is a matter of several lawsuits. After off road use, the swaybar fails to reconnect, making it very dangerous to drive on the highway. The problem is caused by a design flaw, as the unit is not properly protected from rain, snow, mud, and other moisture. The lack of protection causes premature failure of the system and makes it dangerous.
When I disconnected the electronic sway bar (disconnected for the very first time by pressing the factory supplied button inside the Jeep), the sway bar disconnected, but would not reconnect... On inspection, I found that the shaft seals and gear/spring drives rusted out and badly corroded/pitted. I cleaned/greased and reassembled although the individual sway bars are heavily pitted and loose in housing where the seals are located.
There are no repair kits available, for bushings or seals. Jeep forces you to buy the whole new sway bar unit. All other people I speak to with Jeep Wrangler Rubicon's complain of the same issues, irrespective of Jeep being a 2010 or 2021. Driving 100 miles home from Vinton County back to my home in Butler County with the swaybar disconnected was a dangerous position to be in when driving on Highway roads...
