I HAVE NOTICED A STALLING ON THE ENGINE WHILE CLIMBING STEP ROADS. WHEN VEHICLE IS IDLING I HEAR THE ENGINE KNOCKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 2 DAYS AGO. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS A GENERAL OWNERS SITUATION AND DEALERSHIP DON'T WANT TO TAKE CARE OF IT.

Wrangler Sport Unlimited 3.6L V6

My friend Simon is the best mechanic. He's a ASE Master mechanic. He listened to my car for 2 seconds and told me what was wrong with the car. I take it to the dealer and they want to replace about 3/4 of the engine, and leave the old parts to work with the new parts. My mechanic said that does not make any sense. One the old parts are going to give out, right about when the 5 year warranty is up. Two, it's more work to replace all those parts than to put a new long block in it.

I go to the dealer and the mechanic at the dealer says pretty much the same thing. If it was up to him he would change the engine. He said the call was not his...its up to Chrysler to give the ok to put a new block in.

I guess Chrysler's metrics would go down if they replace instead of fix. This is not right the engine had 53000 on it and 4 years of use. The car is paid in full. They need to replace the engine and not throw a band aid at it.

Update from Sep 4, 2015: They replace the Rings, 4 out of 6 cylynders, one head cover and a cam shaft.

I was told by some mechanic that the heads are from China and they are made out cheap material that break down and ends up in the engine

Wrangler Sahara V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles

8,000 miles in I started noticing a knocking noise in the engine more so when traveling at low speeds climbing a hill or inclined road. Ive had it to the dealer at least 9 times with the complaint. They could'nt find or fix it. I've tried heavier oil, that dosent work either! Im 42,000 miles in and it still knocks.

Have tried additives, thicker weight lubricants, higher octane fuel, but to no avail. I do know Chrysler has a track record for this sort of problem, and have started to see more complaints of this nature online in the 2010, 2011 Wrangler models. This being my fourth Wrangler, the quality has progressively gotten worse. It's all about aesthetics, style, and cutting corners everywhere else. Since I have exhausted my options, it's time to take it back to the dealer, and get the usual runaround.
