Approximately 18 months ago the instrument cluster lights began to come on intermittently while driving. They did not seem tointerfere with the performance of the vehicle but it was a constant concern. Almost simultaneously the battery began draining if the vehicle was not driven regularly. Several attempts to correct the problem were unsuccessful, including replacing the alternator and thermal coupling and two new batteries. After replacing the thermal coupling the issues seemed resolved. Then approximately 5 months ago the battery drain began again.

I also received a recall for the airbag clock spring. On 09/14/17I brought the vehicle to Security Dodge in Amityville NY where the vehicle was purchased in 2010. in addition to the recall, I advised them of the battery drain problem and was told it was the TIP module which was replaced at a cost of $1400. See separate complaint for that part/repair.

The vehicle was picked up 9/22/17 it was returned to the same dealership on 10/02 when the battery again drained after 2 days. They advised they were unable to diagnosed any problem and advised us to replace the battery again. We picked up on 10/20, no cost as we replaced the battery ourselves. On 10/20 immediately after picking up the vehicle I drove approximately 10 miles when the all the lights on the instrument cluster lit up! I continued to drive another 10 miles to my destination. Upon arrival the vehicle was smoking from under the hood and emitting strong burning smell. Now afraid to drive the 20 miles back home the vehicle was flat bedded the following morning back to Security Dodge in Amityville NY. After approximately 10 days at the dealership, we were advised that they could not replicate the issues nor provide any diagnosis. We picked up the vehicle on 11/04. After driving it approximately 9 miles the lights again came on. I drove immediately home and parked the car. The next morning after starting the car, but not driving it, the lights remained off. I did not drive the car again until today 11/6/17. Again after approximately 10 miles the dashboard lights came back on and I returned immediately to my home and parked the car. This is so absolutely frustrating. I don't know if its vehicle malfunction or service dept incompetence or both. I can not understand why this problem is undiagnosable. My son, the primary driver of this vehicle is in college so I would like to sell the jeep but can not do that until the issue is resolved. I need answers and I want Security Dodge in Amityville NY held accountable.

At this point it seemed to communicate again with both components. You have no cable any more. It is a module on the gas pedal and the TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) that tells the car how fast to go. It seems it can fail at any given moment. I found one of the front power ports that was not working and found a bad fuse, Replaced and then it happened, As I have read in other reports, the Lightning Bolt. That is what the Instrument Cluster signal looks like. The two would not communicate. Luckily I had to tow my vehicle to a repair and when I got there it had relearned and was working. Towed it back and then the BSP and Traction Control light was on, Hopefully it will relearn itself and go off, Just had the dealer fix the traction control with a new Steering Wheel position sensor. Jeep is placing too many things on the car that can fail and cripple the car, This seems to be the direction we are headed in. Heard some cars are having a problem charging cell phones in them.
