2009 JK Sahara Unlimited 4 door. I'm just finding this sight after dealing with this intermittent 'won't start' until I turn ignition off then back on and it miraculously starts. This has been going on, intermittently, for a few months. It has became much worse (as in more often) this past 2 weeks.
As of 23 Aug 2022 my JK finally died. Dead. I turn the key - nothing, no lights, no sign of life.
Thanks to the many contributions of JK owners and Car Complaints, it seems the problem may be my TIPM. I'll try replacing that.
Thanks for all the contributions. I'll repeat mine for the month of August so folks, Chrysler/Jeep makes, get a feel for what a real pain in the butt it is to have this problem.
Intermittently, my 2009 Jeep wrangler will have a dead battery. I'm a mechanic, a real journeyman mechanic that makes a living repairing cars. The problem is not the battery or anything related to the charging system.
I have been having this issue for about a year now but it has been getting more frequent lately. I've gone as far as connecting a strip chart to my battery to monitor system voltage when the Jeep is parked but as I said, It's intermittent.
I'm pretty sure it's the "Totally integrated Power Module" as, nothing else appears to be wrong and where there's smoke there's usually fire.
Next step is to find one. That has been a problem, backordered.
As the weather turns hotter my Jeep won't start unless if shift from park to neutral and back to park several times, while turning off and turning on vehicle. At some point it just starts - like magic.
We have had problems starting the vehicle. Turn the key and most times it starts after 1.5-2 second delay, but sometimes no start. We wait and try again and eventually it will start if the battery holds up. My wife took it to the dealer while still under factory warranty several times and they refused to acknowledge the problem. Once having it towed there after it would not start after fill up, and again they would not address the issue, and tried to say it was the battery.
