This had been happening ever since I purchased the vehicle. If I put gas as normal people do, the gas will shoot back out of the tank onto me, the car, and on the ground. I have to press the nozzle handle very slowly and carefully. This way, it takes a very long time to fill gas. If I forget and press the nozzle handle normally, the gas will back up onto me. This is not only annoying, it's also a health hazard, and an environmental hazard. This should be replaced by Jeep manufacturer at not cost to me. If I were to fill out a complaint for each time this has happened, I would be at my computer for a very long time.

I have had two jeeps now. My first jeep was a 94 jeep grand Cherokee with 194,000 miles on it. It had its quirks, but it had almost 200,000 miles on it. After I bought my house I decided I wanted a real jeep. So I bought myself a decently priced four door because I wanted the extra space for our two large dogs. It had under 100,000 miles on it. I have had a few problems with this vehicle, but the fuel spilling out every time I fill up is a huge pain. I checked to see what month mine was made, and it was in July of 2008 so mine would not have been offered the extended warranty. Chrysler needs to stop doing this certain vehicle bull and if the vehicle is having the problem fix it! I had a Honda that wasn't even having a problem and the maker did a blanket recall anyway. Gas spilling all over the place IS a safety issue and should have been a recall. It should have covered more than just 135,000 jeeps as well.

I love my Jeep, except for the excessive gas spewing when I fill up. The pump does not know to automatically shut off, therefore gas spews out projectile style. Not only is it unsafe, but it is also embarrassing and makes it appear as if I don't know how to properly pump gas. The gas runs down the side of the vehicle and creates a huge puddle on the ground while also dousing me at the same time.

My Fix: I never fill up. I make a judgement call on the amount of gas I think I can squeeze in without going over. It 's a pain because I have to pay extra attention not to go over, but it is better than smelling like I've been swimming inside a tanker truck.

I bought an 08 Wrangler the end of May 2015 and experienced the spill almost immediately. I called Armory Jeep here in Albany NY about the issue and Chryslers (Jeep) TSB #14-003-12 which "should" cover the repair free of charge. Well after giving my VIN# I was told Jeep would NOT cover my repair because my particular JK was manufactured for Canada. So I went to Jeep Customer Service who again denied me the repair. In the end the car dealer with whom I bought from, offered to do the repair. GREAT! The dealer got the Mopar Fuel Filler Tube #52059821AQ and installed July 20th (again free of charge - something Jeep should be covering). Filled up tonight, July 22nd...and guess what? Same spillage WTH?!?!

This has been the worst car purchase ever. I have only owned this Jeep for 2 months. I hate to say this, but I have always had multiple issues with American manufactured vehicles that I owned. My 2008 Jeep Wrangler(Rubicon Edition) has had many issues, but the most pressing is the fuel spit back problem when attempting to fill up my gas tank. I was able to put gas in the vehicle, but it would not detect when the fuel tank was full. In turn, this caused the fuel tank to overflow and gas to spill out everywhere. I had my vehicle serviced by Colorado Chrysler and Jeep for the recall on the fuel inlet check valve.

After picking up the vehicle, I later discovered that I could not put any gas in the vehicle (only up to $0.64, yes, 64 cents). I had plans to run a fuel system cleaner, so my tank was completely empty. I had to use my roadside assistance to tow the vehicle to the dealer. I get a call from the dealer explaining that I needed to replace the O-ring and it would be $160.00. I bit the bullet and agreed to pay this. Later on, I receive another call stating that they needed to replace the FUEL TANK, and it would cost me about $1200.00. I was so upset that I contacted the MOPAR OWNER CONNECT and gave them a piece of my mind, but they explained that there is no recall for this and it would be completely out of my pocket. This baffles me. Their so called "fix" actually made this issue much WORSE. My next step is contacting the dealership and expressing my point about the issue being made worse.
