My wife was driving my son to school and the HVAC blower began cutting in and out, the wipers came on, washer fluid was squirting out, the horn started blowing, the running lights and head lights began to flicker on and off and the Jeep stalled. Could have killed both of them as they were moving through busy school traffic.
We ended up needing the vehicle towed home. The behavior continued with the key turned to the run position. The only way I knew to stop it was disconnect the negative battery terminal. I waited about 30 minutes and reconnected the negative terminal. Again, the behavior started and I could here a lot of "clicking and switching" under the TIPM. I immediately disconnected the negative terminal again. I have since replaced the clock spring, the blower resistor and blower relay. Reason for the blower stuff is the blower would run without the key in the ignition. Fairly certain the TIPM messed up the relay or resistor or both. Probably just the relay, but the parts were cheap so I went ahead and replaced both.
I think Chrysler has a major problem with their TIPM's as the incidents above aren't isolated to just our Jeep. Hundreds of thousands of recalls and they can't even keep the part in stock from having to replace so many at the tune of ~$1200. The behavior is sporadically consistent (if that makes sense) with ours. No vehicle with as few miles as ours should have power management issues like this. Really no vehicle should ever have these sorts of electrical issues regardless of the number of miles; unless it's buried in water or mud... to which our vehicle has never had either.
IMO Chrysler is negligently putting peoples lives in danger while milking their customers for high cost repairs. Furthermore, the part is $600 and it takes 30 min to replace the part. They tell you the vehicle has to be reprogrammed, but I'm not so sure about that either. The BCM I believe automatically learns and adjusts to the replacement TIPM through a sequence of actions with the key in the ignition. Could be incorrect about that.
