As i was driving to a camp ground about 20 miles from my house i heard a slight ticking sound that sounded like the lifters. so when i arrived at camp i let the vehicle sit for about 5 hours while i did some work there. Before i left camp i checked the oil. The oil level appeared to be about a quart low, so i drove about 10 miles to a gas station, purchased oil and put a quart in. About 10 miles later there was a horrid sound from the engine (grinding) the vehicle shut off completely. I had the vehicle towed to Gladstone dodge in KC,MO where it sat until monday. On monday the dealership informed me that they wanted (they say chrysler wanted it) a record of every oil change and every maintenance ever performed on the jeep and they wouldnt even investigate the problem until then. I quickly ran into problems. It seems oil change places only keep records for 2 years, the original dealership no longer exists and since some of the maintenace was done by me i could not provide records for every oil change. Auto parts stores dont track oil purchases, just items with core charges like rotors, starters and the like. So since i couldnt comply with this outrageous burden of proof Chrysler denied the warrantly work. I now have a large paper weight with 37k miles.
