The contact was advised to call NHTSA. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while operating the windshield wipers, the motor failed. There was black smoke coming from under the dashboard upon failure. The contact made the necessary repairs to the windshield wiper motor at his own expense. He also stated the fuel tank was defective and took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer advised the contact that the fuel tank skid plate would need to be replaced. The repair was not covered under warranty and there were no recalls for the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000 and the approximate current mileage was 28,000.
