We have had our 2007 Jeep Wrangler X Unlimited for about 18 months. About a year ago we started experiencing the death wobble. We have taken the Jeep into numerous shops including the dealership and have spent well over 1,500.00 and yet the Jeep still death wobbles. On July 8, 2012, our teenage son was driving the Jeep and experienced the most violent death wobble to date, just before the bracket that holds the steering stabilizer broke. Thankfully he was already slowing down in an attempt to stop the death wobble and was able to safely pull over. The Jeep is now at the shop for repairs. PAID OVER $450 FOR NEW STABILIZER AND SHOCK AND TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCE AND PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. MY MECHANIC RESEARCHED IT ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THE STORIES YOU SEE THERE. HE TRIED A SECOND TIME TO FIX IT AND DID NOT CHARGE ME BECAUSE HE COULDN'T STOP IT. IT'S RIDICULOUS. IF THE VEHICLE SHOULD ONLY BE DRIVEN OFF ROAD AT LOW SPEEDS, IT SHOULD BE ADVERTISED THAT WAY. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. IT'S DOWNRIGHT SCARY. I FIND MYSELF CLUTCHING THE STEERING WHEEL, NOT KNOWING IF IT WILL HAPPEN AT THE NEXT LITTLE BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE ONLY WAY IT WILL STOP IS BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY. I HAD TO TRAVEL AT REDUCED SPEEDS ON THE INTERSTATE AND HOPE NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME IF IT CAME ON. CHRYSLER SAYS IT HAPPENS WITH ALL SOLID AXLE VEHICLES. DO THEY ADVERTSE THAT? WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO OWN A SOLID AXLE VEHICLE IF THEY ALL DO THAT? IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A SOLUTION THAT DEFINITELY FIXES THE PROBLEM, PLEASE POST IT SO ALL OF US OUT HERE WITH THE 'DEATH WOBBLE' PROBLEM CAN GET IT FIXED AND ENJOY OUR JEEPS. OTHERWISE, MINE IS GOING BYE-BYE SOON.

This death wobble has nearly caused me to be in several accidents. I can be driving on the freeway in the L.A. area, hit a slight bump or pothole, and then i nearly loose control of the jeep. The only way it stops is I come to nearly a complete halt..on the freeway, and then start over. My local mechanic said it was the tires, changed them....to no avail. Then the shocks...changed them too...to no avail, then the steering suspension...you guessed it, to no avail. Called the Alhambra Chrysler Jeep dealership where I bought in 2007, and they stated that they never heard of this problem, and yet it's all over the internet as well as YouTube! I will call Chrysler headquarters in the morning. If I get no satisfaction, I shall call the State of California Lemon Law dept, and most likely a Lemon Law attorney. I will not spend any more money on this vehicle. It is too dangerous to drive over 40mph on any road!

First off, I'm a loyal Jeep owner who has had 6 Wranglers and 2 Grand Cherokees. I currenlty own a 91 YJ, 03 TJ, and 07 JK and it seems as though the newer the Jeep, the less reliable it is. My 03 and 07 have both had death wobble. The worst experience by far was on I-25 near Denver Colorado doing over 70 mph. It almost caused me to crash into the concrete barrier in the median. For some reason the dealerships can NEVER duplicate the problem or find issues with either Jeep. Once they told me a belt had broken in one of my factory radial tires and replaced the tire but that didnt fix the problem. The only solution, and i use the word solution loosly, was to put oversized tires on them. I have 33's on the TJ and 35's on the JK and no longer have the problem. I have owned Jeeps since I was 16 but will likely never purchase another "new" one. My YJ is 20 years old with 200k on the odometer and never has issues! Why cant Jeep build them like they used to! Unfortunately the JK has been plaqued with problems since day one that Jeep doesn't want to address and therefore continues to lose loyal customers.

I am writing to you because I do not know where else to go with this. Something needs to be done by Chrysler and something fast before something serious happens to someone. I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 door Sahara and I am experiencing with it what is called the "Death Wobble", If you were to search about this on the internet, you will see I am not the only one that this is happening to. I have called the dealership where I got the jeep and automatically they tell me that I need to have my stabilizer bar replaced and that it would cost me $250. I will tell you by all the complaints that I have seen on the internet that that will not fix the problem. I do not have the money to sink into this jeep for something that they say is going to fix it and it does not. What I experience when I hit a bump going about 50 is a violent shaking in the front end of my jeep to the point that I have to slow down to almost 20 mph to get it under control. I have also experienced it coming down a hill and when I put the brake on and the violent shaking happens again, but when I put the brake on to slow down it does it worse. I am very scared to drive my jeep and I am afraid for my family and our lives in this jeep, when I use to love it. If this is a steering stabilizer problem then I think that Chrysler needs to take responsibility for this. I am sure if you ran a story about this, tons of people will come forward with the same thing. My mother in law has a 2009 jeep wrangler 4 door and the same thing is happening to hers. She has had new tires put on it, balanced, and an alignment. She has had it to the dealer twice and they tell her nothing is wrong with the jeep. My friend also has 2007 Jeep wrangler 4 door and hers does it too. I am so tired of having a vehicle that I pay good money for and I am afraid to drive it. I have also contacted my local news station.

Death Wobble Started 31 days after jeep was bought May 2011. Got more violent and worse. Started to happen More frequently. Took it to the dealership to have it fixed twice. December 12, 2011, I was on the highway, came to a turn in the highway front end didn't feel right, Merged to my left lane hoping it would solve the situation, experience the worst death wobble I have ever been through. Lost the use of my break, could only hold onto the wheel to keep it from flipping. Took me into a wall at 70 miles an hour. My neck has permanent injury, dislocated my jaw....dealership neglected to fix it. CHP REPORT DEEMS ME NOT RESPONSIBLE AS DOES MY INSURANCE. Not fun!!!! I need help.

We had a death wobble experience start at 50,000 but we were unaware of what the death wobble was at the time. We were recommended to replace tires at various tire shops (none of which mentioned "death wobble"). Now we know that we have been dealing with this death wobble we realized we have replaced tires, shocks, damper "stabilizer", breaks, rotors, balanced tires on numerous occasions unnecessarily due to what should be a manufacture problem (recall). We have experienced this "death wobble" on various roads and freeways, after only having the car for 2 years. My particular car is a stock vehicle and has never been off road. After our first death wobble experience, we continued to experience it, but we were naive of what the real problem was at the time. Each death wobble experience has be horrifically frightening and gotten worse over time and mileage and has been extremely scary for the driver, passengers and the cars behind us swerving to avoid hitting us. To gain control of a death wobble situation you have to bring the vehicle to a complete stop to gain control of it, this is a particularly scary and potentially fatal problem especially when you are traveling on a freeway were the speed limit 65 to 75 or in a carpool lane or bridge where there is no service lane to pull over (trust me we have experience all of them). This has caused me to almost hit various freeway walls, center dividers, pedestrians and park vehicles. This problem should be recalled before it actually injures or kills people. What is Chrysler Jeep waiting for someone to die in order for it to be recalled. This has been very costly and frustration when replacing parts and nobody really has a solution to the problem "including Jeep". I have contacted an filed complaints with the "Center for Auto Safety", Consumer for Auto Reliability Safety "cars" and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Everyone should do this so that jeep can get pushed to actually recalling these dangerous cars, not everyone out there is a pro driver if you know what I mean. I have a case worker at Chrysler that has not done a thing, my car has been at Jeep for almost a week now and they are saying no different than the other fifty mechanics that I have taken it to. They say replace this, that and still can not and will not guarantee that it will fix the problem and there still getting rich, while the cars are broken, hazardous and unable to drive it on a freeway or anywhere. Yes a jeep that suppose to be made for terrain, unable to travel on a freeway (never thought I would see the day), but it has come. This has happened to my husband also, on a lease car after two years and he returned it back to the dealership and that was a 2007 Jeep Sahara. Don't return your car and exchange for a new one, because they will sell to someone else and still make money. They will recall this car and other jeeps when someone actually dies on the freeway, like I almost did. Thank good for AAA that towed my car to safety because I am sure Jeep would of never towed it, let alone fix it.

I was driving my jeep down Vail Pass in CO when I experienced the problem. I hit a slight bridge crack and the front end started wobbling uncontrollably. I was thinking that maybe I had a shock stuck, so I tried fluctuating the gas up and down hoping it would pop back out, however it did not. And I was having a helluva time steering. I stopped. A concerned driver stopped. He got out of his car as did I and proceeded to tell me that my whole front end was shaking up and down and he was worried I would lose a tire. I had no idea it was this bad! I was shakin, and so was this man. But we checked the vehicle over and it seemed to be all fine. I got back on the road and started driving without any shake; but I am so scared it's going to happen again and maybe cause an accident. This was the 2nd time it happened, and now after researching the problem im afraid im going to have to take it in :(

While driving thru construction at about 45 mph it started shaking violently and only stopped when I slowed to about 20 mph. Got off on exit and right to nearest dealer left it there and rented a car for the rest of my trip. Picked up car and they changed dampener for 350.00. Said I would have to replace upper and lower ball joints. Mind you it was in for it;s 45000 mile maintenance 5 days before this happened and I paid 328.00 at that time. I also have only owned this Jeep for 35 days at this point. I drove it home slowly the next 80 miles. took it to the dealer I bought it from in the morning they said it did not need new ball joints. And told them I am afraid to drive this car, they told me to call Chrysler, I did and they want me to take it in again to get it checked again with in 3 business days, this will make it 4 inspections with in 2 weeks - 3 of them by the same shop. By the way my fiance drove it to work and it did it for him on an off ramp at about 50 mph later this day. OK, whatever, Chrysler said if they can't find anything this time they will just close the case, hmmmmm. I have owned only Jeeps for 18 years and feel very sick about this. The Death Wobble is terrifying, if I trade it in I fear some other family will inherit this "unfix-able problem". Do I start the process of costly parts that wont fix it? Do I pass this on to another unsuspecting person? Do I only drive it to the mail box in fear of it causing an accident? Or do I keep telling my story on sites like this in hopes Chrysler can come up with some answers.

Any owners out there that can fix death wobble. I took it back to the dealership with 36000 miles on it. They said that they didn't know what was wrong with it (yeah right) but that they would look. Three hundred ninety five dollars later they said it was the stabilizer. It drove like a new one after they did that. For about a week. Then it started again. Not quite as bad but just as often. Why wont Jeep do something, I love my wrangler but unless something gets done I will not be buying anymore Mopars.

I was pulling my camper for the first time to go camping, which is why I purchased my Jeep. I was only going about 35mph, slowed to go over RR tracs, then increased speed and the vehicle shook violently. We got out of the vehicle thinking we had a flat tire, but couldn't see anything. We assumed the front axle gets out balance or off track and thought nothing much of it. It happened a couple months later while traveling around 55 then I was able to slowly stop. Then just now it happened about 2 months later again while traveling just 40 mph and after hitting a slight bump in the road. I was able to stop quickly, but now am seeing this has to be looked at. I am at 33,404 mileage and am hoping it is covered! I can see how this could be very dangerous!!!

My Jeep at first had the Steering Rod changed to fix the Death Wobble, which is happening to my 19 year old college student, then we were told to get an alignment, now we are bringing it to jeep because all of the "Fixes" aren't working. From what I hear this may continue unresolved, I can't believe there isn't a class action suit or recall on this. I have 2 Jeeps I purchased at the same time. I purchased extended life maintenance warranties for an extra 4200.00 per vehicle on both jeeps, and the dealership closed 2 months after I purchased and Chrysler told me I'm out of luck because it's based on dealership. So now I'm dealing with the Death Wobble and paying for each "unfixable cure". Great, I lost my husband to cancer, I do not want to loose my daughter to the "Death Wobble".
