I drove all the way home from the dealer/repair without a hitch, parked, ate dinner, husband drove to Lowe's which is 1 mile away, parked and shopped, in the 1 mile it took to drive back home, it jerked (hard shift) four times. Dealer "could not" recreate problem so denied existence despite a wealth of evidence.
The following are some excerpts from the forums. I know they aren't necessarily the best place to get information but this particular issue got 3 pages of "me too's" on one forum in one thread.
1) apparently a "long trip" is 10 total miles or so—about the distance i drove after flashing the ECU/PCM. the transmission started acting up again on my way into work. super boo...
2) We have done this and it has worked.
The first thing I would do if I was ANYONE experiencing the major symptoms both myself and numerous other posters have listed in this thread, i.e hardshifts, high rpms at low speeds, knocking sounds or sudden jerks, BEFORE you go into panic-mode and take it to a dealer and spend tons of money just to diagnose it... do the PCM/ECM flash mentioned earlier. If the problem goes away for good or even temporarily for a day or two, BAM, right there, self-diagnoses, replace your PCM, its not hard.
Jeep KNOWS about this issue and has never done a recall. The after market is riddled with unscrupulous companies that take your money and give you a faulty PCM that was taken from another Jeep. There is no OEM. The cost of an aftermarket PCM is $1300. I am not the only one. When I called a dealer, they said nationwide, .5 of a PCM is being sold every day!
