This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While filling gas tank in san diego at the same location I had filled up at many times the fuel pump kicked off and in less than a second later gas came squirting out of the vent holes with enough force to spray gas 3 - 4 feet away from the car. I initially thought it may be a problem with the pump but over the last 10 month this has occurred at many different gas stations. I have also tried filling at the lowest speed of the pump but it will still spray out. It stopped for a month or so but has started up again over this last month. This is very dangerous when it comes out with enough force to get into someone's eyes or possibly cause a fire. The first time this happened my shirt and pants were sprayed with gas.
2005 Jeep Wrangler X, fuel overfills every time I fill up. The tank does not allow the pump to shut off automatically. Happens at every different gas station and with every tank. Not an isolated incident.
Every time I fill the gas tank on my 2005 Jeep Wrangler unlimited rubicon it overflows out of the fill location. Sometimes the splashing is very powerful other times it is just a medium splash. The only way to not have this happen is to anticipate when the tank should be full and stop.
2005 Jeep Wrangler ejects gasoline at every fill-up. After the pump clicks the vehicle filler neck shoots out a considerable amount of fuel (aprox 1cup +). on a windy day about a month ago, the fuel came out with enough force to go all over the vehicle, me, and onto my face. The problem is consistent and causes a substantial amount of fuel to spill out at every fill-up.
Gas tank overflow: I bough the Jeep over 1 year ago. 3 out of 4 times I fill up the tank, the gasoline overflows out the tank and sprays me or the ground. It happened this morning too.
When filling up the fuel tank on my 2005 Jeep Wrangler it will not shut off. It sprays gas all over. This is unsafe. Its a fire hazard. It spills gas into the environment. Its costs me money(gas ain't cheap). It is gonna ruin the paint around the filler neck. Jeep refuses to fix the problem under recall. It is happening on many years and models of Jeep. This is far from an isolated incident. The problem is related to the rollover vent valve. Gasoline is serious stuff. It should be treated as such. It happens almost every time I fill up my tank. Jeep wants to charge their customers to replace the whole fuel system. I cant pay that bill, it is way too costly.
2005 Jeep Wrangler unlimited has developed a faulty rollover valve in the gas tank causing fuel spills when refueling. Chrysler denies warranty claims stating this is normal wear. However, this is an extreme safety hazard - fumes and potential for fires and explosion as well as harmful to the environment.
My gas tank over flows and gasoline gushes out every time I fill my gas tank at every gas station. The gasoline pump auto shut off valve does not activate until gasoline gushes out past the gas tank filler neck and into the plastic gas fill area. From there the gasoline continues to leak onto the painted body of my Jeep. Notably, trying to insert the gasoline pump into all conceivable depths into the gasoline fuel filler neck has no effect on the gasoline gushing issue. This problem didn't start until my Jeep hit about 40,000 miles on the odometer (I am the 1st owner). This leads me to believe something within the fuel filling system or possibly evap system is corroded, plugged up, or otherwise fouled as there is no exterior damage. This could create multiple dangerous situations both at the gas station and on the road.
The fuel tank fill with overflow gasoline during fill up. This happens with every fill up since 2006. The Jeep was purchased in 2005. This seems like a common problem with Jeep Wrangler.
When filling up the gas tank, the tank seems to have a venting or pressure problem. When the tank is being filled, gasoline shoots out of the tank violently as it approaches full.
While filling the fuel tank fuel gushes out of the filler neck instead of the nozzle shutting off. Fuel spills all over the side of the vehicle and on the ground.
Fuel overflows when filling at the pump. I have a 19 gallon tank and at around 15 gallons the handle releases and gas spews all over the place. Talked to manassas va Jeep and they said there was nothing they could do.
Fuel overflows and spills every time the vehicle is refueled. Problem has been identified as a bad check valve in the gas tank which requires the gas tank to be replaced. Same tank and just a matter of time until it recurs. This is a safety hazard and an environmental concern as approximately 1 cup of fuel is spilled on the operator.
Each time I put fuel in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler unlimited fuel splashes out covering the filler cap, the side of the vehicle, and whatever is nearby. I do not "top off" the tank. It does it on the first shutoff click of the nozzle.
