Every time I fill up, the gas tank "burps" gasoline back out of the filler pipe; it gets on the vehicle, on the ground, and sometimes on me. If someone close to the vehicle was smoking, there is a pretty fair chance that the vehicle could catch fire and possibly the person who was filling it up, as well. I would have thought that this was dangerous enough to warrant a recall.
I hate knowing every time I fill my tank I have to get wet with gas. there has been maybe one gas station where it just trickled out when the auto shut off kicked on. Every other gas station sprays me, every time. this is probably a fire hazard, and it seems well documented, tons of MOPAR cars have this issue.
Bought Wrangler used. Has overflowed every time fueling if you let it fill. Must stop before full. If you let it fill gas shoots out down the side of vehicle and on the ground. I'm told by the dealer they fix 07's but not 05's.
When we purchased the Jeep new, it didn't do this. The problem started sometime after it was purchased. While fueling, if the nozzle is locked on the tank will overfill and spew gas out the filler and all over. It will eject about a pint of gas I would guess. This happens now every time we fill up. Very dangerous!
Just bought my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and both times I've filled the tank since getting it, fuel has burped up out of the tank by the fuel pump just as the auto shut off engages on the pump itself. Fuel spilled out onto my hands, clothes, the pump and the side of my vehicle.
I have not been able to fill my Jeep at the pump for more than 6 1/2 years! I have to estimate my fuel needs, subtract a few gallons and pay inside (to set the automatic stop). All to ensure I don't have the horrible problem of gas overflowing all over my Jeep, the ground around the pump, and me! I am so tired of this problem!!!
I am not able to get gas from stations that are not open for inside prepay. I have fallen several times traversing an ice covered parking lot to prepay, when I could have just paid at the pump if this problem did not exist. As a woman, I am especially vulnerable to being a crime victim, when I am forced to get gas at night and instead of staying in the relative safe vicinity of my vehicle, I must cross darkened parking lots to prepay - All because of gas overflow that happens EVERY time I fill-up at the pump! This is becoming more of a concern, as I am now working as a social work, which requires travel to unsavory areas at all hours.
I do not EVER top off my fuel and only use a grade of fuel as recommended by Jeep.
