Electric Power Steering Gear
If replacing the steering gear for a leaking fluid concern, there is no oil or grease inside the gear that can leak out. Dark colored grease is used to install the bellows on the gear housing as an assembly aid.
If fluid is noticed on the gear, the gear itself is not the source of the fluid leak.
