Back in July the Service Transmission and Check Engine lights came on the dash. We pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the dealership for them to check it out. At that time they told us the code said something about a clutch slipping, but they couldn’t replicate the light or figure out the issue. They updated the computer and hoped that would solve it. They told us if it comes on again to not shut the car off, to drive it straight back to the dealership for them to check the codes because some information gets lost if you turn it off. The Renegade’s manual says to turn the vehicle off and on and see if the light remains illuminated on the dash.
This last Saturday (roughly two and a half months later) the dash lights came on again, and we drove straight to the dealership as we were previously instructed. They took the codes and scheduled it to be looked at later in the week. I called today to see if there are any updates and was told the transmission had a catastrophic failure, there was all kinds of burnt fluid and it’s ugly. They are waiting for Chrysler to approve them ordering a new transmission, and hope to be able to order it in a few days. The most concerning part is that there was no change in handling or shifting in the vehicle!
Update from Oct 9, 2019: I forgot to mention that in July we were notified that our Renegade was the only one known of to have had this code fire, so Headquarters was involved in the attempted fixes.
