About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
All right rear lamps failed due to wiring hardness with center grounding wire burnt. Rear lamps are no longer functional. Also this would have cause a spark, enough in the right circumstances to cause a fire, and consider it a safety concern. Bulbs when out when out after replacing when out again this lead me to investigate and saw the burnt ground wire. I called the dealership and ask if any recalls and told me they would look at it and also charge 130 diagnostic charge. I believe you have a similar complaint on this issue. Please investigate.
While driving, there is a clunk sound when the engine tries to switch gears. Also, the brake lights, turn signal lights, etc have a warning light that flashes saying the lights are out even when the lights are still working. I also had to replace he cooling fan in May 2018 due to my vehicle stopping, wouldn't drive, wouldn't start.
Dash board reports parking lights, turn signal indicator, brake lights not working. They are working fine when checked. Appears to be identical to recall 17V485000 for the 2017 model Jeep Renegade
We have had the vehicle for less than a week. My wife commutes my disabled child to a state school every school day. While on her way home the vehicle in question shuttered and died while driving. She was able to get the vehicle off the road and onto a access road. The vehicle then would not start with several attempts. She then called me, who was at work, and I left to help check the car. With limited tools at my disposal, I checked for battery voltage and intake restriction. No problems found. I checked the instrument cluster for fuel and had 2 led bars with no low fuel "dummy" light. Cycled to range till empty section and was showing 60 miles to empty. So I assumed fuel was not the issue, but didn't rule it out. Since she had already driven 60 miles to this point, I assumed ignition was also not a issue. I then unhooked the battery to reset ECM/PCM. Hooked battery back up and tried to crank again with still a no start. I then went with the easy route and obtained a fuel canister with fuel and added 1.5 gallons of fuel to the tank, which increased fuel gauge to 3 led bars. Once above previous 2 led bars the vehicle started with no hesitation. Since this issue I have looked for recalls on programming or any tsb pertaining to this issue with no avail. I have read on forums this same issue happening to other similar vehicles. I find that with out these indicators or the reliability of the range to empty that this could lead to a safety issues depending on the environment the vehicle stalls in.

The instrument lights come on and tell me my lights are out and they are not. The radio is all jacked up clock is off the navigation doesn't know where I am or if there is a road there or not. Been on phone with uconnect several times and to dealer several times and nothing
Ambient outside sensor is not working properly and causing the air conditioning and my heater to not work properly. My outside temperature reads 131 degrees and its 43 degrees outside. This happen every time I drive it, the whole time I am driving it now I have to replace the whole passenger side mirror which is going to cost $325 which I think is ridiculous.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. While attempting to start the vehicle, several warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the parking brake, coolant hot, and air bag warning indicators were illuminated. After thirty minutes of attempting to start the vehicle, a tow truck company was contacted to have the vehicle towed; however, the tow truck driver was able to jumpstart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred once. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 62,000.
The contact's father owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that vehicle shifted into neutral independently while in drive. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated intermittently. In addition, the vehicle would not crank and had difficulty starting. Furthermore, some electrical failures were experienced, including all the windows remained in the down position and would not roll up and the exterior lighting remained illuminated while in operation. The contact associated the power train failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000(power train), which only pertained to the 2014 and 2015 models. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was serviced on several occasions for the various failures. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 47,243.
The car stops and turns off while in motion. Car lights turn on but engine will not turn on. Had battery replaced twice. The car won't turn off even after pushing the button and exiting the vehicle. Lights won't turn off. Key fob is detected when not near and not detected when inside car. Have gone to the extents of unplugging battery to reset computer after hours it will then turn on and work for about 1 week. With light issues in between. It's become a hazzard since the car will just turn off while driving and will not turn on even with a jump start from a tow truck. The car will become dead 100 percent. Only lights turn in at times until battery gets drained out. Then nothing works.
Dashboard reports parking lights, turn signal indicators, and brake lights are not working. They work fine. This appears identical to recall 17V485000 which was for 2017 Jeep Renegades.
Multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard when starting vehicle while no problems exist. Warning lights stay on at all times. Chrysler has a recall number "T50" on Jeep Renegade 2017 models.
Dash display states multiple left side lights are out when no lights are out at all. This has happened every winter since 2016. When headlights are off things seem to be fine on the dash. When I turn headlights off shows bad light in 3 places. Lights are not out. Dash also flickers. I'm weather under 40 service engine indicator comes on, and engine will not function properly. Feels like half of cylinders are firing. Chrysler knows it's a faulty thermostat. Left me stranded 2 winters straight. Thermostat operates normally during spring/summer. While under warranty the technicians at david stanley Dodge in midwest city, ok said nothing was wrong with both issues. Refused to fix under warranty. Vehicle is now out of warranty and it will cost nearly $1000 to diagnose and fix. I put today's date in, but it's been happening for the last two years. With the thermostat problem and the electrical problems with the dash there is something seriously wrong with this electrical system. These issues are rampant and all over the forums. Miles when issue occurred are from 800 miles - 70483. I will our current mileage in the 'what was the mileage' block on next page.
Ever since we bought the Jeep it's had problems. Problems included shuttering, electrical malfunctioning, and door locks failing. Even problems with the sun roof. Each time we took it back to the dealership the Jeep was returned with 'no problem found'. just recently the service engine light came on and we took the Jeep to get serviced. The mechanic told us about an issue or recall that's been occurring to our model Jeep.
Driving down the road the car lost power, oil pressure light came off, lost power steering, car shut down. Wouldn't start. Checked oil, called tow truck. I had to push the car back to get it off the road while my husband backed it up to get it off the road. Tow truck got there, put can in neutral, engine light came on and wouldn't go off, car wouldn't turn off emergency brake, pushed it 20 or so times, emergency brake finally turned off so we could back up the car so the tow truck could get it front of it to tow. Car is now at the dealership. We have had nothing but problems with this car and it is dangerously unsafe. The car was in the dealership already this summer for weeks for electrical lights going off and the car continuing to run without the key in the ignition. The Jeep Renegades need to be took off the road.
Engine cooling fan was replace, paid $100 deuctible on lifetime warranty, was recalled later and fca denied refund of $100 even after dealer processed refund.
