I know it says to list each complaint, but I will just start now even though I have been dealing with this issue since I purchased the vehicle new back in October 2016. I first brought it to the dealer with 4500 miles. Fast forward OVER TWO YEARS, and I'm still dealing with this issue.
The radio/GPS unit in this vehicle overheats after driving for an extended period of time. The problem typically starts to occur between 45 and 75 miles into a trip (but has happened both sooner and later) and most often occurs in cold weather when I'm using the heating options within my vehicle.
Once the unit overheats, it will shut itself off and then will commence turning itself on and off at it's will over and over for the rest of my trip. I cannot operate the unit at all when this is occurring; I have absolutely no control over it and am not able to turn the unit back on manually.
When the unit is shut off, I lose both the radio and the GPS navigation option that I paid for upon purchase of this vehicle.
I'm beyond frustrated and disgusted with the customer service I have received throughout this process. I have had 12 service appointments thus far. I'm currently on my 4th radio for the vehicle and have gotten countless worthless "software updates". I was finally told this is normal operation. There is NO WAY this is normal. I was told that I keep the "heat too high". There's nothing on my dash warning me that if I turn on the heat that it's likely other things within the vehicle will bomb out. I live in Syracuse, NY - it's very cold in the winters and I'd like to use my heat!
Now when the radio goes out, I have resorted to turning the heat off (to try and revive the radio and GPS) and then placing my hands on the radio and then rubbing them on my legs for warmth!!! The radio unit is very hot to the touch so it does provide warmth!!! I was told to keep my heat low and divert it to the floor. Did that and all it did was take about 10 mins longer into the trip before the radio bombed out again. This issue is simply that the dealer and the Jeep "expert" have no idea what is going on. I have come to learn that I'm just a number to both the dealer and to the Jeep brand.
