The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. While the contact was attempting to start the vehicle, smoke appeared underneath the hood. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the failure was due to the wiring that traveled to the fuse box, leading to the crankshaft. The failure could cause a possible fire. Spitzer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram cleveland (13001 brookpark rd, brook park, oh 44142, (216) 356-5745) stated that the warranty had expired and the repair would cost $2,800. The manufacturer was not contacted. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 73,800.

Both while driving, and while sitting. Vehicle experienced many electrical problems due to slow tipm failure. Over the course of six months. Countless hours and lots of money on diagnostics. And fixing individual components for the problems that were happening. Car was hesitating, bucking, and sporadic idle. Also radio and bluetooth connectability started to glitch. Certain lights would not work. All of these problems were handled individually for the components that normally makes them happen. Only temporarily fixing the problem. The final problem was the cooling fans staying on even when the car was shut off. Checked all involved circuitry. Everything was fine including relays. Finally settled on the tipm being bad. Jeep then tried to gouge me on the price. Ultimately wanting to charge about $1,600 for the diagnosis and fix. Including $700 just for the part. I located a new oem parts through a third party for $250. And a simple plug-and-play install, corrected all problems with vehicle. Dealership then tried to say the part needed to be programmed. So they could charge $200 for a service that is completely unnecessary. If you get the right tipm for the exact model and options. A soft reset can be done by simply using the ignition key. It is very poor business practice by Chrysler corporation. And they are taking advantage of many unsuspecting customers. Often paying upwards of over $4,000 in one year for misdiagnosed and overpriced services.

There was also a loss of electrical power and the instrument panel and radio shorted out. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer (anchorage Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 2601 E 5th ave, anchorage, ak 99501, 1-(907) 276-1331) more than five times where the battery and oem radio were replaced, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

Car cuts off (engine stall) after starting & driving! first it was hard to start, then it would cut off after starting or putting into drive, finally it cut off on me while driving in the middle of the street (had to be towed)! thank god, I wasn't on a main highway! before the complete shut down, auto zone ran a check on my vehicle for me, showing battery & alternator were fine, but found that the sensor (crankshaft or camshaft) was the problem, with car cutting off! NHTSA shows this to be a problem (vehicle stalling, ) with the 2016 Jeep Patriot, but my VIN is not listed. I spoke with my dealer, they acknowledged that was a known problem but not on my VIN#, & that I would need to pay for a diagnostic from them, to prove that is what wrong (can accept information from auto zone)! I am unable to use my vehicle, because of this problem, if this is a known problem with the Jeep Patriot by the dealer & NHTSA, why isn't my VIN# not on the list??

2016 Patriot with,54,000 miles. No major issues prior. 2 weeks ago however, I was left stopped in the middle of a highway entrance ramp, almost rear-ended by a semi and side swiping a construction sign to avoid being hit. When accelerating the etc symbol (lightening bolt) will display, traction control icon and check engine light will display. The Jeep completely stops accelerating (highway speed to 0 mph within seconds=deadly), it will shake before just dying. If I'm lucky I'll make it to the shoulder (if it happens to have one). Through google research, I came across a way to do a "reset" (turn car off, insert key and turn "on", press gas pedal slowly, release slowly, turn car off and then restart the engine). Doing this typically clears the icons and I'm able to travel again. This intermittently happens, so you never know when you're potentially about to be involved in an accident from stopping in the middle of the roadway. When driving on city/town roads, it has not completed stopped as stated above, but will "jump" when switching gears, then throw the etc symbol. If I let off the gas, the icon goes away and car runs normal. I took it to a mechanic 1 day ago and was told to get a new battery. The battery was changed 1 day ago and the issue occurred multiple times today. Through online searches it appears this is a terribly common issue that Jeep has yet to address! someone is going to end up losing their life because of this malfunction. There appears to be no way of knowing this is going to happen or any preventative measures that a typical person would know to take to avoid this deadly malfunction. As easy as it is to just take it to a mechanic, that is not financially possible for everyone and in this situation needs to be addressed by Jeep as it is recurring issue and is deadly. Nothing as a vehicle owner would avoid this from occurring.

230am on interstate 25, no road lighting, no traffic nearby. By ourselves, four of us on the way to the airport. Set cruise control to 75mph. Seconds later all lights including dashboard went out. In total dark ness. Guessed side of road. Managed to stop car. Turned off, back on, all restored. We actually grazed an overpass which I have attached photos. We four came near death. Scared to drive car. Just had "patch" work done at nearby dealership to repair ABS and traction lightss that were on. Please advise.

While driving the car runs rough. I've scanned the car and no codes come up. I was driving and the etc light flashed and it felt like the time went out. I was afraid that my car went out of time. While driving and shifting the transmission sometimes slips out of gear prematurely. I was driving straight when all of these problems happened.

I am driving the Jeep is on the highway, doing 60 mph one week after I had bought the Jeep in May 2016 and it automatically started going faster on it's own, with the RPM indicator going clockwise. It would not slow down on its own so I had to drive to the access road and put emergency brake on. Once I was able to start the vehicle again it reset itself and performed normally. This has occurred 5 times since I have owned it, including July 25, 2018 when it happened again last week. Last year I had it checked and was told a sensor light was out, so they "fixed" it. It is still happening. The dashboard indicators are constantly flashing. They told me they reset them also. It is still occurring, also

Warning light kept coming on for "low tire" while driving on city street, highway and interstate. Had this checked repeatedly at dealer, the low tire light would go off then come on again later. The day after takingthe Patriot in for the low "tire light" the ESC/ABS lights also started coming on. I have just over 50,000 miles so the warranty is over. I was told that in addition to the $115 for doing a diagnostic to see why the lights were on it would be $350 extra plus labor to replace the sensor. I was unable to pay for this at this time. I was told that it would be okay to drive it but the lights would stay on until replaced. Online I see that there are over 18 other complaints for the same reason. The sensor got some type of moisture and was shorting out. Mine continues to be on for 30 minutes then go out, or not come on at all, or not on then comes on. Either there is an issue with connection or this is just a bad product. With all of the complaints for this same scenario - I am afraid that there is a water leak or the sensor does not have protection from water. Either way, I feel that this is a hazard to anyone driving a Jeep Patriot. Others have reported smoke, fires, etc. This needs to be addressed by the dealer and corrected free of charge. I loved my Patriot until this happened. I will be driving on the interstate this weekend, which is why I tried to have the lights/sensors checked out Monday. I leave tomorrow and hope and pray I do not have a fire/accident to report on Monday. This is a valid safety concern and should be addressed. Online other reports also state that sometimes you lose acceleration and stall because of the sensor. Please check this out before someone is seriously hurt.
