My wife bought her Patriot used with 31,000 miles on it. All was well to about 50,000 miles, then on her way to work the Jeep started bucking and wouldn't accelerate regardless of the gas pedal position. About 30 MPH is as fast as it would go. The check engine light, traction control light and throttle light all were on at this point. We had it towed to the local Jeep dealer who had it for 2 days. When we picked it up they said they had replaced the throttle body and "flashed" the transmission computer. It ran fine... for awhile. At about 68,000 miles it acted up again. Same symptoms.Into the shop again. They cleaned the intake manifold and throttle body they said. They couldn't get it to act up when they test drove it, so we took it home. Now at 89,000 miles it bucks and won't accelerate and dies without warning. Not trusting the dealer anymore we took it to a well respected private shop. They scanned it and it threw a few codes. They are recommending changing the TBI electronic control module and throttle sensor, at a cost of about $1100 using factory parts. Overall this vehicle has been an unreliable POS. We are going to fix it one more time and trade it ASAP. Bottom line... NO MORE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS.

Just experienced my car stalling while I was idling at a red light. Bringing it to the dealership this Thursday. Very annoyed and concerned that this happen considering I just had the throttle body replaced at the end of March. Haven't experienced problems with this car until these past couple months and it's terrifying.

Sounds like Jeep Knows there's a problem. Replace them. Man up Jeep... Mine started the other day. I'm the second owner of this 2014 Jeep Patriot. I was going down the road when out of no were lost power almost got rear ended by an 18 wheeler before i could get the jeep off the road. The electrical light came on the Stability light and the Check engine light. I was told by a Jeep dealer to turn it off and back on to fix didn't work keeps doing the same thing. I asked about the recalls on these they said they didn't know what I was talking about.I asked what are we suppose to do, they said I don't know drive it I guess. I guess Jeep is like other Companies waiting for worse things to happen before they do anything about this. It's nothing new it looks like with the complaints I've seen.

vehicle speed control - etc light - engine stall uphill

While driving uphill to work today in -40 degree temps I experienced for the first time a "REAL JEEP PROBLEM" -- the ETC light went on and the car stalled momentarily almost dropping out all power. I thought it might be a random issue due to the intense cold temps in Minnesota, although didn't have this problem last year. Then on the way back from work, the car was warmed up enough but while going downhill the light blinked on again.

I checked on line and it seems that many Patriot owners have experienced these freak incidents and usually on the highway which end in a fatality! Has anyone come up with a solution to fixing this? Why hasn't Chrysler put in a recall? There is still a power-train warranty on this -- is there any connection to the ETC and that 100,000 mile warranty?

Update from Jan 3, 2017: Ok I was wrong about the mileage, but that's hardly the issue - Mileage is I believe around 87,000 don't quote me yet because I'm too pissed off after what happened today. I thought last week was a fluke, I thought it was cold weather or something. Many people say, it's probably bad gas. NO.. bad gas does not turn on nearly every idiot light on your instrument panel, and try to accelerate the car while a pedestrian crosses in front of it. Unless there's some type of nutcase out there trying to manipulate my car with a remote control. Today I went to the dentist, and had a parking attendant park my car. It seemed fine before that, and what do you know.. I came out and the car was warmed up and idling high with the ETC light on again, along with a new light known as the MIL light which stayed on. I shut the car off, and on a few times hoping it would reset itself. The first light on is the MIL (after system check) RPM is up to 3 and throttles down then ETC light begins to flash. Directions in manual say ..there is a malfunction. Well, what am I going to do, they got cars to move, and I'm in a parking garage!! I decide to risk leaving because I'm only about 12 blocks from home, downtown Duluth. Car tugged and spat, lights stayed consistent , then a new light came on - THE ESC - ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL - so we have ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT . I was hoping the system would reset itself, hoping it's a computer error, and then there was the hill climb to get to the top of that one street just blocks away from home. I end up at a red light and on the incline .. ON THE INCLINE -- as a woman walked across the street in front of the car, while my foot was on the brake, the car appeared as if it wanted to accelerate and the RPM'S jumped sky high, and all the lights on the instrument panel lit up like a freakin' Christmas TREE. Now.. Chrysler has had this problem for a very long time. My Jeep Patriot 2014 was purchased from Bayside Chrysler in February of 2014. On July 9, 2014, I heard the car making a winding sound that sounded like a grinding while driving t 654-70 MPH. On 7/16/2014, the car did it again but this time the overheat lamp goes on and the car travels from 70 MPH to 25 MPH on the highway. When placing your foot on the accelerator the car makes a grinding sound and decelerates even more. We pulled over and turned off vehicle. After starting it after sitting for an hour the car was fine. The car went into the shop and dealer could not find the issue.

On July 22, 2014, car did the same thing in Pennsylvania and was towed to Grays Jeep in East Stroudsburg. The car was released again because they couldn't get any code readings. On August 31, 2014, the car does the same thing but this time as we are going down a hill the brakes lock and the car swerves into oncoming traffic. Luckily we are not hurt and it is towed again to Grays Jeep in Pennsylvania. They could not find the issue but blame it on the mat on the drivers side which is sitting on the brake. Complaints are made with Jeep and they close the case due to this statement from dealer.

On December 24, 2014, when driving to North Carolina, the car does the same thing, again, as we enter the state line of North Carolina. We pull over at a rest stop, turn off car, and when turned on it is fine. We decide NOT to drive faster than 60 MPH for the rest of the trip.

On July 24, 2015, we have two passengers and my wife and I in the vehicle and this time it does it again but we are unable to pull over due to traffic. We exit the highway, let the vehicle sit for an hour and the car is fine. It is taken into Bayside Jeep again to which they cannot find an issue and a second complaint is made to Jeep. To date, we have no resolution and we have a car that is virtually dangerous to drive on the road.

Update from Aug 4, 2015: My wife and I purchased a 2014 Jeep Patriot from Bayside Chrysler in February 2014. 4 months later the vehicle started to make a winding grinding sound when going 65 or more MPH. A week after this started the vehicle started to make that sound and when on the highway, the car's overheating signal came on and the car decelerated from 70 to 30 MPH. When stepping on the accelerator, the car continued to make that winding sound and decelerated until it came to a stop. I pulled the car over to the side of the highway, shut if off and waited in the heat for about 45 minutes until the car started and the problem went away.

The car has repeated to do this from July 2014 to July 2015 six more times. One time, the vehicle did that when driving with my family on I-80 and there was no shoulder. We were almost hit by a large truck due to our slow speed on those winding roads. On one occasion, the car did this going down a steep hill and the brakes locked up and we swerved into traffic. The car has been in the shop in both Bayside and East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 5 times and they cannot find the issue.

The dealership in Pennsylvania where the car was towed to twice recommended that the car only go to Bayside Jeep from now on. My last visit to Bayside Jeep was July 29, 2015. They could not find the issue and released this death trap to me even after the representatives at Jeep Hotline, who let me tell you are awful as well, recommended that I not drive this vehicle due to it being unsafe.

Now, Bayside Jeep wants me to go into the vehicle with one of their employees and drive for hours until the problem occurs. Not only are they putting my life in danger but they are also doing this to one of their own. I am so disappointed about the way this has been handled from Jeep's end, Bayside Jeep and Gray's Jeep in Pennsylvania.

As the owner of three Jeep Grand Cherokee's, I am disappointed that I even entered the doors of Jeep of Bayside. Not to mention that the business manager of the dealership told me that the car was a death trap and told me he would help me by declaring this a lemon. He has never returned my calls and I am placing these messages publicly in the event that I face an accident or worse in this 2014 Jeep Patriot. Yes, I have gone to all Agencies including Better Business, Attorney General's Office and now an attorney. Be aware and do research before you buy a car from this dealership.

I know that people rant and rave on these and many websites but I am being truthful in this review and I warn you to do your research! I am a NYC School Principal with a doctorate degree and I feel that I did not do the right thing by dealing with Bayside Jeep. I have to add this piece to the review....so I have I case number with Jeep and the case manager, Jeanette, I call about 3-5 times per day. She almost never returns calls and has done zero. Her job is to tell me what I need to do and lie to me and tell me that she can never get through to the dealer or service at Bayside Jeep. Imagine corporate not being able to get through to Jeep.

So today, after calling her four times she returns my call at 6:00pm and asks me whats up. I say....were you not going to call dealer and find out what next steps need to be taken. She has the audacity to say to me to be honest I forgot to call....I tell her I can't believe that the lives of my family members and I are not so important....she back tracks and says well I did call but did not get through....she got caught in a lie. We left off that she would call me in the morning-first call-after reaching the dealer. This whole situation is very frustrating and I do not trust this dealer, Jeep nor my car.

I bought my 2014 Jeep Patriot Latitude edition with I believe the 2.0 engine 6 speed automatic transmission, bought BRAND NEW in AUGUST of 2014 with only 14 miles! The DAY I bought it I went around a corner and BOOM it died no warning. Thank God no one was around! Took it to Jeep a week later and they could not duplicate the problems and sent me on my way home. Then recently about 01/2015 my factory autostart started not to work and now it is in the shop 01/20/2015 for this problem and a surging problem AGAIN!!!! It's acting like it's going to die.

This is my second Jeep. I loved my 96' Cherokee. Then I bought this POS. Biggest mistake in my life. I've had more problems in the last 6 months then I have with my Chevy in the last 15 years! The current mileage is just under 7,000 and my Chevy has 185,000 miles. makes PERFECT sense. I will NEVER EVER EVER buy a Chrysler product again. I was thinking about trading for a 2014 Dodge Dart limited but screw that. I've been seeing their problems too. I'll stick with Chevy.

While driving my car, I slowed down to turn into a parking lot..As I was turning, the car cut off..There was no warning or noises. Just dead..I was able to restart it with no problems. .later that day I was pulling out of a parking spot and it cut off again. It is still covered under the warranty so I took it to the dealership. After a full day they told me that they can't duplicate my problem and no service lights were on so they gave me my car back. Told to wait till a light comes on. I have given it 1 week with it cutting off several times. And yet no engine light is on..I am so scared to drive my car especially after someone almost hit me when it stalled. Next up, dealership tomorrow morning.
