Same as others have stated regarding front and rear subframes rusting out and making the vehicle unusable.
Chrysler is playing a bulls*** game in making this an extended warranty issue, as others have stated, when this should be a recall issue as the design and materials used are clearly inadequate.
Outside of the poorly designed and improper material usage for the suspension our Patriot is in excellent shape as we drive less than 3-4K miles per year (wife retired/I'm soon to retire) and meticulously maintain it.
I called the dealer where it was purchased and they referred me to Chrysler customer service as the extended warranty had expired on 9/28/22 (just over 2 months back from today). Chrysler customer service gave me the same bullshit line that there was nothing they could do as the extended warranty had expired 68 days previous to my call on 12/5/22.
I understand that the service reps are largely powerless but I pointed out that this was not a case of "not wanting to properly address the issue" versus "nothing they could do." There's huge difference between "can't" and "won't". This is clearly a case of the latter.
Chrysler Corp. could damn well properly stand behind their products and fix what is a design flaw. Properly supporting the product and ultimately the customer might cause a few bucks reduction in the annual bonuses the C-Suite and other top echelon regularly hand out to themselves between the patting each other on the back - but then they might not need another Lee Iacocca to bail the company out of the crapper again because of their poor management.
This is the second Chrysler product I have owned - and both have been junk in the sense of lasting a reasonable period. I had a new 1976 pickup truck and the V-6 threw a bearing and rod around 42K miles. Beyond the warranty at that time or so I was told.
So in closing I asked Chrysler support if there were any avenues to explore and was given the same BS line "sorry but the warranty expired". At that point I requested the address to where my attorney would initiate communication with there legal department and was given the following:
Chrysler Legal Dept. PO 21-8004 Auburn Hills, MI 48321
If anyone knows of a class action suit in regards to this issue please contact me at mike@mikeshafer.com .
This seems to be the only way to get the attention of rather poor management that seems so prevalent these days.
In sum, if Chrysler properly stands behind their product and repairs our Patriot at no cost then I will happily consider remaining a customer as other than this issue the Patriot has been a reasonably good vehicle. If not that I shall happily spread the word that Chrysler products suck far and wide on those "internets" (per a former US pres.).
Hell, maybe I'll even get a bumper sticker made and sell it at cost on Amazon. :)
